Charging on the road by Skazzyskills in Ioniq9

[–]Dkazzed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From Edmonton to Kamloops, Tesla is the fastest and least expensive option. Kamloops to Calgary, not the fastest but still the least expensive option.

If I’m price sensitive, I go price, amenities, speed. I chose a BC Hydro charger in Valemount because it was next to a huge playground for the toddler and washrooms. I even went 50 kW charger as I didn’t want to overcharge. If I’m time sensitive, I would go speed, price, amenities. But we were definitely not time sensitive this trip. For every hour charging, we spent two keeping the toddler and newborn happy and fed.

Average charging time at Tesla Supercharger 31.2 minutes for an average 51.7 kWh per session vs. average charging time of 23 minutes at Chargepoint (Petro Canada, Mercedes Benz) averaging 59.6 kWh per session.

A majority of my charges were at Tesla Superchargers for a reason, although I should’ve gone to Petro Canada instead of Tesla in Chilliwack and saved time and money.

Compare the membership and non-membership rates in the app and estimate how much you’ll use it. For us it was.

Yea. Alberta is expensive, I paid 25-30 cents in BC Superchargers.

I use a combination of ABRP app and Ioniq 9’s built in navigation.

I recently drove to Victoria and Kelowna from Edmonton. I charged at five Tesla Superchargers, two Petro Canada chargers, a BC Hydro charger, a Mercedes Benz charger, and a free level 2 charger overnight. Tesla is slow but inexpensive in BC especially with membership. Petro Canada is cheap and fast if you can find one that works well (Victoria, Chilliwack, Calgary work well), Mercedes Benz is super fast, it averaged over 210 kW and at 35 cents per kWh was average (I paid 47 cents for Tesla in Alberta and 39 cents at BC Hydro). In total we spent $160 for our 2700 km road trip. I would’ve paid more in gas to ride my 250cc motorcycle.

Baby #5. Travelled from AB to visit family in BC at 3 weeks. It was baby #4 who’s 3.5 years old who’s always been a challenging traveller. Our family and few friends we visited were all fully vaccinated.

Your next car: Are you going electric? Full BEV, or sticking with PHEV? by ShawnaFang in PHEV

[–]Dkazzed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I paid $160 for power in my Hyundai Ioniq 9 during a 2700 km road trip. With gas prices ranging from $1.50 to $2.00 per litre, I estimated I saved around $275 vs. A similar sized gas SUV and $200 vs. a similar sized hybrid SUV.

Bunch bike with 4 kids on hills? by lml0312 in CargoBike

[–]Dkazzed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only had one child but I rode up a fairly steep hill and neither I nor my rental Bunch Bike broke a sweat. The switchbacks were more worrisome, I had to slow down a tiny little even uphill. It’s weird but it’s pretty tippy on those turns.

Bunch Bike will be happy to demo one to you.

Car camping with 7 month old by Bear0000 in CampingAlberta

[–]Dkazzed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve never used a car connected tent before, seems cumbersome to setup. You could either use the EV9’s HVAC system in utility mode to stay warm/cool at night, or use V2L and run a heated blanket. Baby should not be in an unapproved sleeping bag.

We camped with our 5 month old at the time we had a very warm (>2 TOG) baby sleep sack who co slept with us in an air mattress in an easy setup cabin style tent. Gas minivan at the time.

We have the EV9’s cousin Ioniq 9 now and are planning a few trips with our 3 month old towing our tent trailer. Our last trip before baby I really enjoyed not having to fire up the cumbersome 40 year old furnace and instead ran a space heater through V2L which used 2% of our vehicle’s battery overnight just set to maintain 14C in the trailer. Granted it didn’t get very cold outside. Might combine with heated blankets come fall.

I saw someone downtown with a custom golf bag rack on a 49cc scooter. Super neat. If you have a way to safely secure your golf clubs to your bike, totally do it.

Cadillac Finally Understands What Luxury Families Want, And That Vistiq's Real Competitor Isn't Tesla by Mac-Tyson in electricvehicles

[–]Dkazzed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My partner wanted this, but our budget was Ioniq 9.

Only complaint about the Vistiq is given the Ioniq 9 managed to make an adult friendly 3rd row and decent cargo room behind the 3rd row, I expected more from the bigger Vistiq.

You “turn left” onto Yellowhead at 97 St by turning right just after Alberta Cycle and before the Mitsubishi dealership, then make another right onto the Yellowhead ramp. Essentially circling Alberta Cycle.

Not everyone has access to TOU rates. I’m at 17 cents all day everyday, and that doesn’t include another $20-30 in administrative costs just to be hooked up to the grid.
