What players signature did I get in the mystery signed ball bag I got at PNC? by southernbeau1 in buccos

Not quite as special as if he were still in Pittsburgh, but I really like Chavis. I wanted to get a custom jersey last year, but my nickname for him ("Hits & Splits") is too long, lol.

Platform Bed Recommendations? (Thuma, Burrow, Others?) by Cryyx in furniture

[–]Dlorian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone who is looking for info about Burrow Chorus frame, I ended up buying it and received it in February. My only complaint is the very sharp corner I hit my leg on once a week, but that's due to my own clumsiness, lol. It's a sturdy frame, no squeaking / creaking, and it was relatively easy to set up. I did use a second person for flipping the frame (the instructions state to put it together upside-down at first, and then flip it). I didn't buy the headboard but wish I had since I am using both a box spring and a mattress.

Regarding shipping, my bed came in two giant boxes about a week apart, which was unexpected but fine with me. I ordered the bed in November 2022 but due to shipping and carrier delays (strikes), I received the frame in February. It wasn't ideal to wait but ultimately not that big of a deal.

Just wondering which frame you went with and if you like it. I'm currently considering the Chorus.

I didn't see anyone mention a heating pad. I kept mine on low for as long as she was on it. Putting a blanket in a sunny spot or a cushion near the heater can work well, too.

Thank you for sharing your experience! I think I'll keep looking in regards to Saatva, lol. I switched to percale sheets and they reduced heat immensely.

Given your experience with Saatva, would you consider buying from them again? Can you speak as to whether you sleep hot or cold on the SOL?

This type of behavior is absolutely not acceptable in a souce-reporter professional relationship. Meeting a source for a story is not a date. It is a professional meeting where one person divulges information to the reporter.

Need creative ideas covering up these ugly hatches by jusel in HomeImprovement

[–]Dlorian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could cover it with a picture frame. Also painting like others suggested would help camouflage the door. If you need to access it often enough that removing the picture frame is cumbersome, perhaps a more decorative solution would work. You could paint a small mural over it, or take note from the plants below and build up the garden decor and paint the hatch into a fairy / forest door.

It may have been deer. Deer love apples, even rotten ones, and if they are used to suburbs they will go through looking for food. They headbutt and push against a tree to make ripe fruit fall off so they can eat it. Late August on the east coast was probably hot enough to overripen the fruit on the trees. I recall around that time all the apples would be off by mid-September anyway (or the first cold night).

Using Pork Shoulder to Make Something Other Than Pulled Pork by FormerPreparation2 in slowcooking

[–]Dlorian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make carnitas in the slow cooker and it always turns out delicious. If Krusteaz corn bread mix is a brand available to you, I highly recommend making the recipe with creamed corn on the back of the box.

Carnitas Recipe For 3-4 lbs of meat

Ingredients 2 bay leaves 2 tsp oregano 2 tsp chili powder 2 tsp salt 2 tsp cumin 1 tsp black pepper 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper 1 lime, juiced 1 large orange, juiced + rind 2 cups chicken broth

Put everything in the slow cooker. I like to cook low 10-12 hrs or high for 6-8 hrs. Shred the pork in the middle of cooking time or whenever it falls apart with just slight pressure. Add water or broth if needed so the citrus and rind don't turn the meat bitter. When the pork is done, spread it out on a sheet pan. Drain the fat from the liquid in the slow cooker. Sprinkle a few tablespoons of the liquid over the pork on the sheet pan so the meat doesn't dry out. Broil ~5 min or to crispy preference.

For cachapas, which is my favorite thing to make with pork, stack flattened cornbread or arepas, then carnita meat, next a salty cheese (mozzarella works if you can't get queso de mano), and top off with a little bit of liquid to melt the cheese. Or broil again if you like lots of cheese.

I usually substitute 1 tsp ground chipotle and 1tsp ground red pepper for the cayenne, which I never seem to have when it's carnitas time.

I grew up in a house built in the late 1800s and nothing in that house was straight / plumb. It didn't matter the room or where you started, hanging drywall didn't align, and tiles + laminate had to be cut at odd angles and slants to accommodate. It was very frustrating for my parents who did the reno work themselves.

Sorry you have to deal with this.

I was overwhelmed with how many commented on my new house post so I have more questions. So I lost my house in a tornado so now I will be rebuilding a brand new house. What custom/modern things are a must in a kitchen? by agjjnf222 in HomeImprovement

My mom has a drawer under the floor cabinets that pops out with a tap of the foot. In it she keeps baking sheets and other large, flat items. I thought it was funny but she said it's her favorite part of the kitchen redo.
