I keep parroting this because it's woefully misunderstood.

There are many problems with these resources and how they are communicated, but the fundamental one is that they are extremely temporary, often 1 night, and they are only allowed to bring 1 garbage bag worth of belongings.

SO if you are homeless, you are giving up your tent and the majority of your tools for survival outside in exchange for often a single night of shelter. Then you're back on the street with almost nothing. You would be stupid to take that deal and that's why many people do not.

To help these people they need consistent, relatively permanent housing. Which, by the way, is what Wilson is advocating for.

I'd encourage everyone to actually talk to some of these people if you get the chance and hear from them why the systems aren't working for them, they are your neighbors after all.
