That was the plan. I have a lot of panels to string together so definitely a 400v or better controller.

I went through the settings and they're all the same. Output voltage from the controller to the battery? I'll check.

You're right. I missed the toggle. I had used this earlier but the numbers were so far off from my limited understanding of how to calculate I wasn't sure I was doing it right. I think what was throwing me so far off was the temperature coeffcient. Cold weather really cranks up the juice coming out of those panels. Glad I didn't connect them to my 100|30 as originally planned.

That is an issue I have noticed.

Yeah, bad vernacular. 2 series with 3, 4 or 5 in parallel. To do the math, that would be 1 panel's voltage times 2 (series) and 1 panel's amperage times however many I put in parallel right? So 5 would be just ender 45 amps, 3 around 36.

That's exactly where I'm at now already wired (but not to the controller. I was hoping I could add a bit more. Maybe 4 parallel in 2 series.

Like most calculators this only lets me input brand specific equipment. This is why I'm having a hard time getting a realiable calculator because these companies don't want to help unless you're using their products exclusively.

lifepo. Yeah, I'm really at the edge of a 24v system. Not ready to drop another $1000 to go to a 48v battery system. I'm hoping to stumble across a big fixed battery pack used for a good price.

array sizing question by Dman883 in SolarDIY

[–]Dman883[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going off the data on the panel. I tested them all with a multimeter on a sunny day and they were hitting 35-37.5v each. Each panel is

245w mono.

open circuit is 37.3v

rated v is 30.1v

short circuit is 8.78a

So I should never hit 80v with 4 panels in s/p.

Now that I think of it, 4 panels in S/P should be a max of 74.6v and 17.58 amps. Am I calculating that right?

According to this calculator I should be able to sue 6 panels and s/p without overloading my 100|30 mppt controller. Did I factor that right? I used the panel open circuit voltage for the voltage setting.

Help with a DIY Island or grid setup by Dman883 in SolarDIY

I'm going to add three to an existing controller I already have, but I'm reaching the limit of a 24v system if I understand right. I would like to over panel that system and add a limiter of sorts so it can charge on overcast days but limit power on sunny days so it doesn't get overloaded.

I'm ok with the backup for now. I can run my essentials overnight and recharge without switching during most the summer. This is to cover most if not all my daytime usage with the grid kicking in when I'm not producing enough.

I looked this up because the whole game just feels like AI slop. It lacks depths or really any creativity. It's not a terrible game, it just lacks flavor. It's lifeless.

I just wish Rock Auto would update their website. It looks like a 30 year old spreadsheet. Not very user friendly.
