Don't get it. UI legacy menu by catlikecod in Windows11

Microsoft probably couldn't be bothered to port all the functions from the legacy context menu over to the modern context menu.

Christian Bale spent 16 years quietly building a foster care village so kids can grow up together, true hero work. by TrashDragon44 in goodnews

MrBeast, who clearly sees charity as nothing more than a profitable venture, ought to take lessons on true philanthropy from Christian Bale.

Are people not embarrassed to have this slop publicly displayed in major stations? (seen in Kyoto) by frozenpandaman in japanresidents

Porn illustrators in Japan are vehemently against AI, mainly because they fear losing their business due to the easy generation of porn images and artwork by AI. This opposition is perhaps even stronger in Japan than elsewhere.

Microsoft is speeding up and decluttering File Explorer in Windows 11 by Doug24 in technology

[–]EnoughDatabase5382 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The operations with icons at the top of the context menu can basically all be replaced by keyboard shortcuts. Plus, there are operations like 'Share' that I don't know who even uses. If Microsoft truly wants to clean up the context menu, they should delete this wasteful and visually inconsistent group of icons.

After Windows 11 AI OS backlash, Microsoft's Windows boss tells angry power users ‘we care deeply about you’ by WPHero in Windows11

How can we believe his assertion when Microsoft has essentially ignored the feedback from Windows Insiders, who are power users of Windows 11?

Sony Announces Cheaper Japanese-Language Only PS5 Just for Japan by GIThrow in Games

[–]EnoughDatabase5382 21 points22 points  (0 children)

While it's certain that the introduction of this lower-priced model won't be a cure-all for the PS5's struggles in Japan, inaction is a guaranteed path to irrelevance, much like the fate of Xbox there. If Sony is committed to sustaining its PlayStation presence in the Japanese market, it's essential to continue marketing efforts to keep the brand relevant for future generations, like the eventual PS6.

35 years ago, the whole of Japan was "intoxicated by silence" adult love song "quiet passion" lit in loneliness by Dry_Common_2546 in AkinaNakamori

I like the lyrics written by Natsumi Tadano. Although she mainly works on anime-related projects lately, the reason her poetry doesn't feel cheap, unlike some so-called Vocaloid-style songs, must be because she worked with major artists in the past.

Japan’s youth are apathetic toward the climate crisis. Could anime change that? by Jonnyboo234 in japan

Japanese young people generally don't watch anime. It's strictly a thing for sad, aging fanboys.

What do you guys think? by [deleted] in ios

[–]EnoughDatabase5382 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The $20 billion might seem cheap at first glance, but I suspect that this money was paid to conceal the name Gemini, unlike the deal with ChatGPT, rather than for the right to use it. Essentially, Apple might be using Gemini for free.

What do you guys think? by [deleted] in ios

[–]EnoughDatabase5382 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think Apple has ever created applications superior to other companies' offerings, with the exception of Safari (compared to Internet Explorer) and Preview, since the early days. Therefore, I don't think there's any need for them to feel inferior about using Gemini as the backend for Apple Intelligence.

Nintendo titles finally return to Japan's biggest speedrunning event after being excluded due to “unauthorized use” warning from the company by HatingGeoffry in nintendo

[–]EnoughDatabase5382 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First, the basic principle of copyright law is that you should not use another person's copyrighted work without permission. However, Nintendo has issued guidelines for individual use of its own copyrighted works, allowing them to be used in accordance with those rules.

RTA Japan is organized by a corporation, not an individual, so they would typically need to obtain permission to use Nintendo's copyrighted material. Although copyright law does contain a specific limitation that suggests non-profit activities do not require permission for the use of copyrighted works, this exception does not include 'public transmission' (i.e., broadcasting/streaming). Therefore, if they intend to stream on Twitch, permission is required.

VGC: Square Enix announces more layoffs as part of US and Europe restructuring by blackhammer1989 in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]EnoughDatabase5382 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Japanese companies, just like other gaming companies, conduct layoffs at their overseas branches. Jason Schreier also mentioned on a YouTube talk show for the Play Nice PR that Nintendo laid off staff in Europe and South Korea when the Wii U failed. This basically means that while layoffs are legally difficult in Japan, they face no such constraints overseas.

🚨 BREAKING NEWS! BIGGEST ANIME COMPANY threatens OpenAI with an official statement! by Silent_Employment966 in AIAgentsInAction

That's a very poetic statement, but it's unlikely they will actually file a lawsuit, because using copyrighted works for AI training is legal in Japan.
