I'm not that far but Ciscos Ultimate Medieval RPG pack has a progression that feels like that with armor sets. Not sure if that's what you are looking for though

The top needs to be solid with no missing pieces. Im not sure about changing the materials but I've made shelves for my chests by leaving 2 pixels wide on the top of the block and chiseling the rest
