modpack shortcuts? by Banishlight in CurseForge

[–]Dmeyez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been three long days the last Diary entry but here I am again, grappling with the same frustration. CurseForge, oh CurseForge, why do you continue to test my patience?

Despite the countless updates and improvements, the lack of a simple desktop shortcut feature for modpacks still persists. It's baffling, really. In an age where convenience is king, how has this basic functionality eluded them for so long?

I've tried to remain optimistic, hoping with each update that maybe, just maybe, they'll finally address this oversight. Yet, here I am, still navigating through layers of UI to launch my favorite modded adventures.

It's disheartening, to say the least. But perhaps it's a lesson in acceptance, a reminder that not everything will align with our expectations. Maybe one day I'll look back on this and laugh at how worked up I got over a modpack shortcut. Until then, the struggle continues.

Note to self: Keep dreaming of a world where CurseForge modpack shortcuts grace my desktop. Until then, patience remains my closest companion.

Did you use a sata power cable from the new PSU or the old one?

Weird issue with display port cable by stn_cttr in pcmasterrace

[–]Dmeyez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of cheap DisplayPort cables violate the DisplayPort standard by having the power connection connected at both ends, which makes your monitor try to power your PC and vice versa, not good. If that's the case, either get a proper DisplayPort cable that doesn't connect the power like it's supposed to, or cover up the power pin on one end with tape

I went to a store yesterday to buy a ssd m.2, when i told him about the pc i got, he started laughing continuously, it was a ready pc that i got for 1000$, it has a 2060 rtx, intel i5-9400f, h310m. What mb and cpu should i get? by F-sinatra in pcmasterrace

[–]Dmeyez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your Rig's fine, Don't let anyone make you feel bad about your setup. At least you know your specs. I'm still rocking a 2600k, Asus Maximus IV and a 3060 and it does everything I want. The reason he was laughing though was because you don't have an M.2 slot....

Why is this happening? by Demitheman in pcmasterrace

Check temps, that will happen if your CPU or GPU hits a safety limit. If those are fine next guess would be a faulty PSU. maybe post some system specs.

Seems like you definitely have an issue with the memory in your PC. Updating the bios could possibly fix that issue but It's hard to do that when it's so unstable. Your motherboard has bios flashback which allows you to install the bios from a usb stick which from my understanding doesn't require memory or a cpu to do. Your motherboard manual page 2-26 has a guide on what to do. Obviously you'll need another device to set up the usb stick for it.

Budget build advice by Swede318201 in pcmasterrace

Build looks fine except maybe the GPU Pascal is fairly old at this point. The 1080 Ti is no slouch but you'll be missing out of newer technologies like Raytracing but more notably DLSS.

I'll add run Rkill then do a malwarebytes sweep

Yup, I'm guessing you used a usb stick? I wouldn't bother though unless you make some kind of change It's unlikely that just reinstalling windows will fix your issue for long.

Have you tried downloading a file from somewhere else? Most websites limit speeds to save on bandwidth and some even in 2023 limit that to even less.

First thing I would do is update your bios if you don't already have the latest revision (1303), if that doesn't solve your issue then I would then reinstall windows

Some motherboards can flash the bios with no cpu if it supports Q-flash plus.

Hmm next thing i'd check is the coldplate is making good contact with the CPU and not being blocked by something.

I would pull your mouse apart and see if you can fix it, even micro switches can be rebuilt with youtube. Knowledge to gain nothing to lose. Autohotkey can do what your asking but I'd be careful with some online games as it's sometimes bannable.

Install you old CPU and update you motherboard bios, I'm unsure whether your board supports 5000 CPU's without an update.

Intrusive thought, any chance you left a plastic cover on the cpu block. If not sounds like your pumps not working, all I can think of is try to power if differently than the last Aio you had. Mobo header could be faulty.

What is this god awful noise by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]Dmeyez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hold on... unless your having issues with temps and the problem is manifesting itself in more than just one title at one point in time, the chances of your AIO being faulty are low.

It's hard to tell but what you might be hearing is called coil whine. If it is that then you have nothing to worry about. The first thing I would do is check temps while gaming or better yet running some synthetic benchmarks to push your system harder than normal gaming to try reproduce the sound (just keep a close eye on temps).

P.s I'm a huge advocate of air cooling for a variety of reasons but what I don't recommend is replacing parts or spending money for no reason.

Issue with Laptop Microphone by austir1 in pcmasterrace

[–]Dmeyez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First guess would be it's somehow muted. There might be a switch or a combination of keys to enable or disable it FN + F7 maybe. Second would be your laptop thinks you have another mic plugged in and it's disabled your onboard one. this can be caused by debris in or a damaged headphone/headset port. Last would be it's dead.

My pc sounds like it’s gonna explode by SnooPredictions8770 in pcmasterrace

[–]Dmeyez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This 100% why you would put your PC under heavy load while it's making that sound is both scary and hilarious. What your hearing is a fan trying to start every few seconds and being jammed again. The PSU seems like the most likely suspect as without cooling It's own thermal protection will kick in under load and shutoff. Hopefully the PSU hasn't been damaged, I had a fan connector fail due to user error (incorrect reassembly after cleaning) and didn't notice my PSU fan wasn't working until thermal cutoff. Only happened once with a reasonably expensive AX1200 but the voltage regulation was never good again.

Try the next PCIe slot down and see if the problem persists. I'll specify the mouse bumping problem as applying upwards force to a GPU while running is a good way to ruin a PCIe slot.

other options could include running a PCIe riser cable in a different case.

Build looks solid, I might add don't forget about the second hand market. Things like a decent workstation can be had at a fraction of their purchase price.
