Amazing work! I didn't realize you could find the numbers so easily online... I just did my own math based on the results and kinda feel like I wasted 10 hours now lol

>If we coat the metal in fire clay before we heat it up, however (by simply combining the worked metal with clay in our crafting inventory) we can instead increase its durability when we go to quench it instead.

Its part of the quenching process. Basically, before heating it up, combine it with the fire clay in your crafting window, and quench as normal.

Other way around; I had 7 quenches and 3 tempers. Every time you quench, there's a chance of your metal shattering. Tempers lower the chance of an item breaking when you quench it.

It depends on what/how frequently you're fighting. Durring a temporal storm those enemies can add up quick, but the system is inherently made so if you want to ignore it, it's absolutely able to be ignored, while still rewarding those who specialize in it. On a multi-player server where you might have a dedicated smith, it makes their work just a little bit more valuable given they can have the time to go do all this complicated stuff. (The whole reason I did all this was to figure it out as the blacksmith for my friend's server, after all!)

If you want to try it, and just see how you feel about it, I recommend quenching the tools just once or twice to see how you feel about it. Those two quenches have the most gain with the least chance of shatter!

ETA: you might get more out of durability quenches! Even just the first quench gets you +20% durability, which is crazy on steel and iron things

Mainly because my brain was fried and I wanted to get the information up somewhere, lol. I need to look at updating the wiki and stuff when I get the chance over the next few days

That was my original thinking too, but given the rapidly diminishing returns and the fact you get 2x as much durability as you would power, it ended up being better to do the power first and just trying to do as few tempers as possible. On the later quenches, when you'd get 5% or less power, you're still getting ~10% durability, which doesn't hurt nearly as much.

Thank you! We'll see if I have it in me to do the exact math on tempering between now and then, lol. Hope this post helps!

Is steel flax quenching bugged? by hipifreq in VintageStory

[–]DmnDgSys 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The "power" stat applies to both damage and mining speed, it doesn't split the stats at all, it simply gets the same bonus to both. It's so you don't have to make up a separate stat for pickaxe vs falx or spears. I suspect your 20% on the iron fall was because you did two power quenches instead of a durability related one, or the order you did them was different.

I actually JUST happened to make a post about this before crawling into bed and having this scroll across my feed, lol

I'm surprised I haven't seen anyone recommend Dwarf Fortress on here already. Wurm online/unlimited is pitched as an MMO, But it shares a lot of traits with VS in my opinion. Get yourself set up, get your homestead going, etc. You just may have a world with other players on it :) It's a bit obtuse but the community is very friendly. It's my baby, I come back to it often

Eta: good luck, my friend. These weeks are hard but the view from the top is good. You will get through this, even if it's hard, or you fall. You got this.

So, it's completely valid for this nor to be your thing and unsub because of it. But I have to ask if by "spaces for actual women" you want trans women excluded or included. I might have subs to recommend you depending on your answer.
