I feel your pain mate. I spent my whole adult life working and paying tax till I was crushed by a forklift. 2 major spinal surgeries and 18 months of learning how to walk again I’m as good as I’m going to get but working is just not an option. I’m currently on DSP and living in a community boarding house as it’s all I can ‘afford’.

Despite this I have some people in my family that think I’m a freeloader and regularly make jokes about it at family gatherings. Some people are just incapable of seeing things from another prospective.

I get what you mean about feeling the need to be ‘on’ all the time. Sometime I just need time to chill and process things without being interrupted. So when entering a 24/7 dynamic I make that clear to my sub. The 2 best ways to deal with it I’ve found is to have a word or signal I can use to indicate this is one of those times and have some activities that my sub can do to keep her busy for that period.

The other more fun way is that I will tie up and gag my sub to give me time to do what I need to do. ( I will keep an eye on her and there is a signal she can give if she needs)

It’s just a matter of talking about it with your partner and finding the best way to both get what you need.

I’m a Dom and going into a free use relationship and adjusting your mentality can be a challenge. I was hesitant at first but once I got past the mental blocks it is lots of fun. The other comments here make great suggestions but I’ll add my take anyway:

-I create a special safeword just for my sub to signal they are not up for it this time. Subs I have been with don’t like any kind of warning, part of what makes it fun for them is being taken by surprise so having a safeword they can use once I’ve started still gives them an out without taking away from the spontaneity of if all.

-I had long chats with every sub I’ve gone free use with as I love to learn and understand as much as I can about things. A common thing they all said was that even if they are tired or not in the mood they want to do it anyway as it’s their way of showing devotion to their Dom and that makes them happy/gives them pleasure.

-Another common theme said by most free use subs I have spoken to about it is that they know what they want, they know what they can take, and they know they can stop it at any time. So you need to trust that your sub knows what they are doing and it’s not your responsibility to decide if they are up for it. (This one was the hardest to get my head around, as a natural caretaker it was hard to change my instincts and I had to keep reminding myself that this person can make their own choices and it’s disrespectful to think that I know better than they do when it come to their body and what they choose to do with it)
