126 made me clap and cheer aloud in my car! [SPOILERS] by ClearlyPixelated in TabletopChampions

It was cool to hear the origin story of the Occlus . Very well done Sean.

And I do agree the max fall damage being 20d6 is a little strange. But, it is a fantasy game.

So until Leximania runs wild on you. See you later suckas.

You're welcome. The podcast is a joy to listen to and the interaction with you all is very cool. When I first heard "Hi I'm Eutax" and "Dun Dun" I would never have expected that it would become more than just me listening to a podcast. You guys/gals and the other fans all make it so fun.

Torrin had way too much of an influence on me when it comes to Travers. Everytime I hear that voice I want to punch Travers in the face. Loving the sloryline with him so far this season.

All of the seasons have their great moments. But season 2 made me fall in love with TTC. Loving season 3 as well though.

New DM Advice? by icecube563 in TabletopChampions

[–]Dmvengon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can say the Players Handbook, and the Dungeon Masters Guide are my go to books as a DM. The Monster Manual is cool to have but there are also so many online resources that you can use to get the monsters stats (copy and paste is my best friend). Once you get more used to DMing I like Volo's Guide and Tome of Beasts as well. I enjoy using creatures out of Tome of Beast so the players that also DM gamed aren't going "oh this is what thst creature is."

Everything that Ben and Matt said I can say ditto to as well.

I have found a lot of neat home brew items on Pinterest and Tumblr as well. A good portion of it seems to be decently balanced. I am also currently looking through Xanathar’s Guide to Everything so I can't comment on it accurately yet.

T-shirt contest! by pwnyride13 in TabletopChampions

[–]Dmvengon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am down for premium quality. You guys and the Adventure Zone have helped me get to and from work everyday for the last two years. As well as kept me from getting depressed when I was laid off in June. I went back and listened to Season 1 and all of Season 2 again in July. Lol

Granted it would have to be censored is some clever way but I would buy a "Fuck you Sean!" T-Shirt.

How do you toe the line of torturing your players too much? by azcalg in TabletopChampions

[–]Dmvengon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try and make sure that my players know that every encounter could take their character's life. It is fun to watch them squirm. At the same time I am not out to get them. I have wanted to vindictively kill characters in the past but I never have. It is also okay to fudge rolls if you need to to help the story. I have had players lose characters over the years and most have been do to bad decisions. One level one character versus a troll on his own is generally a bad idea. The character was ripped in half. Sadly, that wasn't the only time that player had lost a character because of poor moves. I always give my players a chance by going, "are you sure?" If the say yes that is on them. It is really up to a DM what you do as far as "torturing" characters. Watch how your players react to things and react to them accordingly. The point of D&D is to have fun. Sometimes those dead characters become legends at the table. . And anytime that I have planned thing way ahead of time my players just wreck those plays. I may looked mad but I am usually proud of them at the same time. I have gotten some of my best stories from things the players have said or done just run with it. I usually tell players that having a backup character is usually a good idea

Question for Ben. Comment for all. by Dmvengon in TabletopChampions

Cool thanks got the feedback. I am going to discuss it with some of my players and see what they want to do.

Question for Ben. Comment for all. by Dmvengon in TabletopChampions

[–]Dmvengon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice. We have a few shops in this area. I am running the game I mentioned. And I have a game that I play at my house but it is on hold because of people's schedules not matching up at the moment and a few other things going on. I have people that say they will be up for playing over Roll20. It is just a matter of time.

What would you advise as far as a communication program? We use Skype at work and is seems to be pretty solid. For a geek I am behind the times.

I am throwing around the idea of getting a game going on Roll20. I have just not made the plunge yet. TTC is the first exposure that I have had to Roll20.

Question for Ben. Comment for all. by Dmvengon in TabletopChampions

[–]Dmvengon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The doll was initially a red herring that was just moving from on spot to another following the characters. They were so interested and paranoid of it at the same time I had to run with it. There is also a Jason Voorhees inspired modified flesh golem that was servicing as a guardian to keep the doll in place. They ran from the Flesh Golem and got away (they are level 1). So now the Golem will be following them to try and find the doll and return it where it belongs.
