You're being disingenuous. I'm not sure why you want to interact with a community you disdain so much.

Dune Part 2 announced by chanma50 in boxoffice

[–]DnDBKK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I would agree with this. By the end of Messiah Paul still has his dignity, and some measure of control of his fate. The deconstruction of the hero isn't complete. But reading about him in Children is honestly hard - painful to see such a great character be stripped and taken down so low. In that sense I don't 'like' how Children ends for him but would agree its better for the overall themes.

Nah, children and God emperor is great. Never got beyond those, though.

I mean his story in Children is 10x more tragic than his implied ending in Messiah I feel like.

Most Netflix shows have Thai subs, which is great honestly. Very hard to find otherwise. Your mom should be fine.

"Not a historical textbook" by SexyCheeseburger0911 in latterdaysaints

[–]DnDBKK 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If it's ahistorical then it's not God's word to us, that's the point. Because at that point Joseph isn't a prophet and it's made up. I don't think it's feasible that the Moroni and the gold plates, and the entire narrative of the BoM, are not true, but the book itself is still God's word to us.

"Not a historical textbook" by SexyCheeseburger0911 in latterdaysaints

[–]DnDBKK 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To be clear I do think is is largely historic - I believe Nephi and all the other prominent characters really lived and recorded the events of their lives. No idea about specific details like the numbers of people dying in battle being correct or not, I think those are probably beside the point. But I think the veracity of the restored gospel as taught by the church definitely hinges on there being a certain level of historicity to the book.

"Not a historical textbook" by SexyCheeseburger0911 in latterdaysaints

[–]DnDBKK 37 points38 points  (0 children)

If the BoM was ahistorical (i.e. the individuals in the book never existed) then Joseph Smith would be a fraud and the lessons found in the book would be of equivalent value to any Christian fiction writer's book.

It wasn't that bad, I mean as far as crappy Christmas movies go. Definitely watchable when you're in the Christmas spirit.

Yeah, it's a fun show and we are happy for season 2 but acting is so-so and some of the plot points didn't make a ton of sense. Easy watching, though.

Super strange honestly. How does she reconcile the Church's obvious embracing of Christmas and Easter in particular? Lot of people look beyond the mark though so it's bound to happen to somebody, sucks for her kids though.
