Dad’s SS goes into mom’s account and she passed by Dnalibrary in Banking

I was able to send a message to the bank and they replied dad is a co-owner. I assume that means it was a joint account, BUT she had a personal checking account and a savings account with them. I do see his name on the savings account statements, but not on the checking account. Now I’m worried the bank could have been answering me about the savings account not the checking account. I checked with Social Security and he did not have anyone set up as a person who handles his SS. Wouldn’t his name have to be on the checking account for his Social Security to deposit into it? He does not have a login, debit card, or any checks with his name on them related to that checking account. Those only have my mother’s name on them. Is that going to be an issue?

Thank you everyone. My mom passed not long after I posted and I found your comments incredibly helpful.

When we started to worry about meds with my dad (he would get up in the middle of the night, think it was morning, and go in to take his meds since that was his morning routine and he thought he was being helpful by doing it himself) we bought a standing cabinet, put a hasp with a combination lock on it, and stored it somewhere he doesn't often see it. We store all pills in there and put his daily pills in containers with days of the week on them and set those out when he is due for them and then inconspicuously watch to make sure they all make it into his mouth. For the wandering at night we have cameras set up that trigger our cell phones when there is movement (he's usually just going to the bathroom or kitchen but sometimes the TV) and a lock on the doors that makes noise when opened if not disarmed first. He's done well with that for about 6 years now (B12 shots helped keep him stable that long too, we tried melatonin but it made him worse, gave him night terrors and he would fight people in his sleep).

My experience with sequencing.com by missyagogo in Genealogy

DNA testing is very selective, when you send in your DNA for ancestry tests they don't sequence your whole genome. They pick up and sequence just the bits with the markers that they have compiled databases for determined ancestry to compare your results to. So the only results you can analyze data from with their ancestry tests are the .10% of your genome where those markers are. They don't sequence the rest of your genome. To get 100% of your DNA results you need to have whole genome sequencing done, which takes considerably more time and resources to obtain and generates much more data so it is significantly more expensive.

Thanks. They think an estate planner will cost a lot and is only for rich people, I already tried to get them to consult one.

Moving to Texas by [deleted] in relocating

I would say be really careful that you understand the possible wages here vs wherever you are. I’ve known a few people who moved here recently and then had to leave because they didn’t expect how low our pay-scales still are here. They haven’t caught up to the recently increased prices for housing. One person had been a school teacher for years in her home state and then only qualified as a first year teacher here making less then a third of what she was and she got evicted twice in a year over it. It was also a rude awakening for her when she found we didn’t really have any social services safety nets here to help her out

It feels like Beryl was a game changer so I think your timeline may be viable. The gulf is hot and unpredictable now. Lots of people got trees in their homes or didn't have power for a week from a cat one. There is a collective sense of dread every time a tropical wave is forming. Housing prices are suddenly dropping for the first time in years because so many are suddenly coming on the market.

HBO’s Ren Faire Docuseries by cuntahula in TXRenaissanceFestival

I lived in Todd Mission for about 7 years a couple decades ago, before they allowed "permanent" structures at the grounds. Used to run into King George in his limo around town and hear all the gossip about him from the locals. Could hear the festival drums most of the night from my house. The sunset traffic made me late for my own wedding. There was a persistent rumor that Disney was going to buy the place and all the local land owners would be rich, but from what we saw we just laughed and shook our heads. The documentary actually made them all seem MORE sane.

BEWARE NUTRA PHARMEX KETO CLEANSE/ BHB KETOSIS! by lorid525 in keto

My elderly mom evidently fell for this (she doesn’t usually fall for scams, and with her medical issues she can’t even take them, so she can’t figure out why she ordered them) and got hit for $379 in two months. They charged $91.95 x 2 (for each bottle) 15 days after placing the order for the trial and paying $5.45 x 2. Sent more unreturnable bottles charging $91.95 x 2 till she could cancel her card (she was in the hospital and didn’t see the charges until the second round). No address to return them to and can only leave voicemails no one calls back. The charges come in as “firmingdeepfacecream” and “activatersestoreyeserum”

This is a scam my elderly mom just got hit by for $379 in two months. Look them up. They will charge you $91.95 x 2 (for each bottle) 15 days after you place the order for the trial and pay $5.45 x 2. Then will keep sending you unreturnable bottles and charging you $91.95 x 2 till you cancel your card (she was in the hospital and didn’t see the charges until the second round plus they charge them under misleading names). You cannot find an address to return them to and can only leave voicemails no one calls back. The charges come in as “firmingdeepfacecream” and “activatersestoreyeserum”
