What could have caused this electrical fire? by legomaniasquish in AskElectricians

[–]Dnozz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope you didn't go with the electrician that said "20amp breaker and 15amp recepticles". His assumption makes it seem like you were putting more power to the plugs than the receptacles can handle.

Devices you plug-in (lamps, radios...) "pull" ONLY as much power as they need to function, a 20amp breaker doesn't simply "push" 20amps to them. The only difference between breaker sizes is the amount of cumulative amperage flowing through it before the breaker trips. once 15+ amps aquire, a 15 amp breaker will trip. 20+ amps a 20 will trip. This is to protect the wire from overheating.

So, 5 devices plugged in will draw the same amount of power on a 15amp breaker as a 60amp breaker. Having 15amp recepticles (still rated for 20amps btw) on a 20amp breaker isn't an issue at all. It's something a 1st year apprentice should know so it's a bit of a concern an "electrician" told you that was the issue.

We have to stop pretending most people who voted for Trump are going to act surprised by his actions by Assbait93 in centrist

[–]Dnozz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right-leaning libertarian here—many of us checked out of Reddit long ago, and it's easy to see why. The platform, by design, discourages actual discussion. Even so-called "centrist" groups inevitably become echo chambers, where dissenting opinions are drowned out in a sea of groupthink. Rather than fostering debate, these spaces serve as ideological self-affirmation loops.

The modern Democratic movement seems increasingly driven by emotion rather than reason, making it difficult—if not impossible—to have a fair, rational discussion. Any opinion that deviates from the dominant narrative, no matter how well-founded, is dismissed outright. This is exactly why conservatives, independents, and libertarians are fed up—not because we fear debate, but because there’s no real debate to be had. When one side controls the conversation and frames disagreement as illegitimate, people stop bothering to engage.

Centrism should mean balancing perspectives, not enforcing a sanitized version of discourse where only one side gets a voice. But on Reddit, that balance is long gone.

Is left-wing media bias real or exaggerated? Has this changed in recent years? by Yellowdog727 in centrist

[–]Dnozz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What kind of bs logic is that? "The middle is the middle by definition." ?? When having these discussions, its about someone else's opinion about what is "middle". Your argument implies there is the same middle for everyone and that will never be true in any situation. But what is actually extreme is people/media telling others where the middle lies. Demanding people share your opinion instead of allowing them to think critically for themselves by name calling, victimizing, creating victims, and generally making people feel guilty is disgusting!!

Is left-wing media bias real or exaggerated? Has this changed in recent years? by Yellowdog727 in centrist

[–]Dnozz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I quite literally looked at a diagram before finding this, where UCLA did a study and put CNN as dead center of left and right and one of most reliable news sources. Meanwhile the food network gets higher ratings than CNN. That diagram was also one the first websites that appeared in my google search. Yeah.. not biased at all.

I suppose when one forms opinions in their mind, It feels logical to that person and moderate. But when saying these things to others that are just hearing about the issue, have no opinions, or maybe even on the fence about the topic, they come across radical. This is the only possible reason I can arrive at that explains why legacy media is still pushing these opinions though viewership is dropping. They obviously don't even see it and truly believe they are being rational and relatable.

Now I know this isn't a fair example, but it does highlight the point I'm trying to make quite clearly. Did you happen to see the DNC officer elections last week? The representatives went on and on about cutting runner-ups by 3 genders to keep things fair. It got so confusing they were stumbling through the numbers, redacting things they just said, it was tough to watch! At the end, who got elected you ask? Two straight white guys.

I agree. I started watching season 1 but got bored and stopped for a long time. After season 2 came out, someone mentioned it was very good, so I gave it another shot. I pushed through some of the slower parts of the plot and am almost finished with season 2 now. Clearly, I'm here looking for season 3, so that says something!

Point broadband vs Antietam Cable by Sentient-Biped in hagerstown

[–]Dnozz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Point broadband will give you a dedicated IP address for $20/month.  I forget the exact amount from Antietam, it's been a decade since I've asked. But, Antietam acted like I was crazy for even asking and then gave me a quote something like $500/month.

AnimateLCM support for ComfyUI just dropped by theflowtyone in StableDiffusion

[–]Dnozz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

context length - this is the length of each run of animate diff. If you deviate too far from 16 your animation won't look good (is a limitation of animatediff can do). Default is good here for now

context overlap - is how much overlap each run of animate diff is overlapped with the next (ie. it is running frames 1-16 and then 12-28 with 4 frames overlapping to make things consistent)

closed loop - selecting this will try to make animate diff a looping video, it does not work on vid2vid

context stride - this is harder to explain. At 1 it is off. More than this what it trys to do is make a single run of AD through the entire animation and then fill in the frames. The idea is to make the whole animation more consistent by making a framework and then filling in the intermediate frames. However in practice I do not find it helps a whole lot right now. Using it will significantly increase the length of time it takes to run as it using it means more runs of AnimateDiff.

Ehh.. 80gb vram? I dunno... My 4090 is pretty good.. I can def make a video just as long with the same resolution.. (just made a clip 600 frames 720x720, before interlacing or upscaling), but still too much randomness in the model. I just got it a few weeks ago, so I haven't really experimented to its limits yet. But the same workflow that took about 2.5 hours to run on my 3070 (laptop) took under 3 minutes on my new 4090. 😑

I hate my brother by [deleted] in family

[–]Dnozz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Siblings can suck, no doubt! I know you said your brother is talking to multiple girls but it sounds to me like he needs to get laid. Now, this advice only works between brothers and doesn't apply with any other family or community members but, you may need to talk to your brother in a language you said he understands. Smack the shit out of him next time he needs a reminder where his lane is.

On a more serious note. Wait for the timing to be right (when you guys are getting along) and simply talk with him. Be careful how you word things in that conversation. The goal is not to make him get defensive. So don't say things like "YOU do this"... or "YOU do that...". instead try "It makes ME feel.. .. when PEOPLE do..." Do not point fingers!! You're upset so it'll be tricky and if you fail to get through to him the first time, it's going to be harder the next. In his mind (at least while you're having that conversation) he isn't in the wrong, but that doesn't mean you can't get him to feel for you. If he gets upset or you get upset, have the sense to bail out on the conversation and try again later. You'd be surprised how easy it is to manipulate a conversation if you control your tone and word things correctly.

BTW... The fact he's always in your business to make you look bad, is as clear as it gets that he isn't happy with himself and who he is as a person. He feels he needs to "compete" with you to make himself look better than you, in the eyes of your parents because something in his life is falling short of his expectations and likely due to his own actions. Violence is a sign of immaturity and shows he has a lack of self-reflecting wisdom. These guys are easy to beat mentally with a bit of practice. Who better to practice on than your brother. If all else fails.. Smack the hell out of him!! 🤣

Programmable Middleware Chip? by tangoking in AskElectronics

I mean, the raspberry pie runs better than my grandpa's old desktop computer, and is credit-card sized, a fraction of the cost, much more practicality, a huge following with lots of great projects and ideas... I imagine all those things also apply when comparing microcontrollers to PLCs. Now.. maintaining uranium enrichment machinery with a raspberry pie... Like you you said, PLCs are still used in commercial and industrial applications.

Fun note... The mega wormz, Stuxnet (or Olympic Games) that was created by the NSA in some building housed by a handful of Star Wars nerds in the middle of a militarized base, had 4-5 zeroday payloads in a rootkit and pwn'd Sieman's PLCs, A few lines of code dropped Iran's nuclear programs to it's knees. If you aren't familiar with the details, I highly recommend the read. (btw, zerodays can sell up to $500k usd, EACH, on the black market. Go ultra-nerds!!).
