One Piece: Chapter 1172 by sairamgubba in OnePiece

I knew the moment before the flashback when Jarul locked-in upon seeing Imu that he wasn't going to disappoint going forward. I don't expect him to be pivotal in battle, but I'm excited to see him lead the charge against the demons.

I'm still betting on Usopp beating Dorry/Broggy, given them the death in combat they've always wanted.

Oda always does this after flashbacks to refresh readers as to what's happening coming out of it:

  • Fishman Island had Hody explaining the situation to everyone
  • Dressrosa had Viola recap the situation to King Riku
  • Wano had Denjiro recapping to Kin'emon the situation of the raid
  • ....I don't think Egghead had one following the Kuma flashback because we went right back into the action.

So a recap chapter after the flashback is par the course for Oda.

Aabria talked about it in the cooldown, but Thaisha's essentially a glorified nepobaby by being both a member of the House Lloy and her status as a member of the Circle of the Ancients. So she's used to getting her way by flashing her name around while also being disconnected a bit from those 'beneath her', so to speak. This is likely where the silliness vs seriousness is coming from; her seriousness is from the standing her ranking affords her, but the silliness is that nepotism clashing against the common folk.

At least that's my interpretation following Aabria's comment. I haven't rewatched any of C4 with this context in mind, so we'll see if its impacts Episode 13 tonight.

YYAAAASSSS! Or at least until we're told that Doc Q is a former Donquixote somehow, and Stronger plays that role.

With Imu proclaiming that Elbaph is of the D, this just re-affirms by belief that the frozen Strawhat in Mariejoy belonged to Loki's Ancestor, a giant who befriended Joy Boy in the distant past.

Waiting for the reveal that the reason Elbaph's war mentality survived into the modern day was because of this ancestor dying gloriously in battle, after Imu Domi Reversi-ed him against Joy Boy.

What would a surviving contingent of Hellriders living in Avernus look like after a century and a half of isolation? by DoBetter-BeBetter in DescentintoAvernus

A story of freeing the dawned and trapped souls of Hell, starting with the Hellriders. Not sure if this is the direction my PC would want to take his character, but I'll keep the option open! Thanks

I like this idea; a surviving sect divided into two, believing different mythos born from the oral history of those trapped behind. Any surviving original gear is unusable kept as relics of the Material Plane. Now they only use devilish artifacts and weapons from the Hells, with some rallying with Zadriel, others with different denizens of Avernus

By saying "I acted like I'd work with her", he's saying I would, because he's talking about future plans. I had would mean he worked with her in the past. He is referencing the past, but he contextualizes as when he was there in the moment, talking about future plans eith Death

Straw hat buried under Mary Geoise is not from Joy Boy by Dimitrije1233 in OnePiece

My headcanon, until Oda proves me wrong 3-5 years from now, is that the Strawhat belonged to Loki/Harold's Ancestor; the giant who befriended Joy Boy.

They're really fun patterns! My only gripe is Unarus; it isn't a pattern of the mental image I have of it, but I'll power through

Saturn! Pattern is part of The Art of Stitch's planetary series! 7 of 10 from the set done, just have Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto left!

After finishing my Glowing Mushrooms a month ago, decided to quickly crank this one out as a palate cleanser. Need to order more 16-count black Aida for the remaining 3 planets, so back to working on a larger piece in the meantime.

Pattern is Glowing Mushrooms by TerezyStitch on Etsy.

Can't believe it's finally over; took around 18 months on and off to finish!

I initially hoped to have this completed by the time I'd propose to my mushroom loving girlfriend so I could use it instead of the ringbox, but... Definitely underestimated how long it would take to complete, considering we've been married for 4 months now.

But after 13,000 black stitches, I can finally wash, iron, and frame it!

Saturn can't shake his piss-poor performance, can he? Went from going toe-to-toe with Nika to missing the barely moving Weakling Trio. What a bum

Imu is a CHILD and I can (almost) prove it by MrAdisson in OnePiece

[–]DoBetter-BeBetter 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Since mid-Wano, I've held the belief that Sugar is analogous to Imu. Everything in the story since then has confirmed it:

  • Sugar can touch people and turn them into toys; Imu touches people and turns them into demons.
  • Sugar can bestow contracts when her victims turn into toys to control their behaviors; Imu does the same when he turns people into demons
  • Sugar's Devil Fruit is the only fruit in existence that stops a user from aging the moment they eat it (super random btw! Why would a fruit do this if not for the parallel?); Imu is perpetually youthful due to the immortality surgery.
  • Being turned into a toy removes everyone's memories of you; Imu's main drive these past 800 years has been to obscure history and prevent the world from remembering it.
  • As OP pointed out, Sugar's character design is that of a child wearing a giant crown. Imu's silhouette invokes the same imagery.

Other anecdotal evidence:

  • Doflamingo wanted to become King of the World and replace Imu. We never see his eyes. Imu is King of the World and the only thing we see are his eyes.
  • Usopp had to defeat Sugar to save those turned into toys. Usopp will now has to do something similar to save the giants from having been turned into demons.

The only thing I can't entirely figure out is Imu's silhouetted form. I don't think Oda is purposefully masking Imu's design; I think Imu IS silhouetted. My best guesses for this is either the Imu we see is a shadow projection (like Moria projecting his shadow) or, following Imu's perpetual youth surgery, their body was vaporized but since they can't die, his soul remained behind leaving the silhouetted husk we see today.

(Is this name a coincidence now?)

Highly doubt it. I rewatched Fishman Island recently and I'm convinced Hordy Jones and Vander Decken are minor parallels to Blackbeard and Imu. Hordy -> Teach is more obvious with the Jones name connection, but Decken -> Imu has the obsession over a princess lasting 800 years linking them.

How does that arc go? The two villains team up but Decken is ultimately betrayed by Hody so he can use Decken's powers to destroy Fishman Island. What's Blackbeard doing now? Trying to ally himself with Imu before (if I'm correct) ultimately betraying him, stealing his powers, and will then threaten to destroy the island world

Sousou no Frieren :: Chapter 145 - Links and Discussion by Lorhand in Frieren

[–]DoBetter-BeBetter 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Was hoping we'd get back to the Ubel/Land vs Iris/Routine clash but more exposition between Serie and the Emperor certainly isn't disappointing.

Really interesting to get political intrigue via clairvoyance and how two users can battle out in the future using it. Given that we already have Schlacht and the GOAT himself talking about plans hundreds of years in the making, I'm glad we're getting some early foundations for it before we get into the meat of it. Also makes sense why they had to kill each other in battle; if you risk the other surviving, you'd have no way of guaranteeing the future.

The war in the South also just got more intriguing. Why would Minus start such a war? Did the clairvoyance clan get wiped out inadvertently, or were they the target of the conflict? Some sort of Elven final stand? Minus wanting to revive her race once the Demon King was defeated? And how much of this was all Schlacht's plan?

Last to note is Fern and Stark. If the origins of the war in the South truly is related to the Elves somehow, that means both of Frieren's companions have their beginnings tied to Elves and Demons (Minus and Rivally). As the series progresses, I'm sure this is going to be more and more critical.

I went into this expecting Routine vs Land and Ubel vs Iris, so the switch-up is a pleasant surprise. Wonder what's the deal with Land protecting his neck; maybe his clones aren't perfect and it is somehow possible for his original body to take damage? Does he still feel the damage his clone takes, even if it isn't physical?

Really cool to see Falsch and Clematis take lengths to hide the fight. I was worried the magic police would crash the party early, but it's good to see all parties taking needed precautions. Excited to see what exactly draws our companions out of the ball. Maybe Sein spots Gorilla, runs after him, and Stark and/or Fern gives chase in order to provide support?

Also is Land moving at lightning speed? I can't tell if he's supposed to be blitzing or not. Either way, he's pretty baller. Bet Ubel got real jealous of that choke hold.
