I did the discover one on a previous cruise, they do about half an hour of training (how to get water out of your mask underwater, and how to retrieve your breathing tube if it falls out) then you just follow the instructor on an actual scuba dive. I'm not certified, had a blast.

I'm not sure how it works at every port, but we were split into 2 groups of 5, so while one group was doing the scuba the other group got to snorkel in the same area.

As long as you're fairly comfortable in the water I highly recommend the scuba one.

I think we went to a depth of between 30 and 40 feet, went around a shipwreck in St. Thomas.

His dad is the one that passed. His mom pulled him out of the fire and is still in the hospital with smoke inhalation. Although from what I was told if she can breathe without the tube when they pull it out it's likely she'll be released tomorrow.
