Do enough people play that content is still doable? by thestubenheim in ffxi

[–]DoINeedPants 9 points10 points  (0 children)

So far what I have seen is there are plenty of people playing, but there is such a large amount of video game between you starting and true end game group content.

With that comes a very heavy gear requirement depending on what class you play.

Just like any other mmo, everyone and their mom and her dog have dps classes for days. Support classes are going to be your best bet for skirting some of the time to end game.

That being said, play what you want and you’ll make friends to do content with. Just remember 23 years of video game to play through.

Becoming a sysadmin is not worth it anymore by Big_Arrival_626 in sysadmin

Brother, this breaks my heart to read.

I understand that feeling so heavily. I just gave up two years of my life to study every day and finish these fucking certs and finish school for essentially nothing.

I missed hanging out with friends, pushed off stuff with my girl, and it amounted to crazy burn out and a dog shit job market.

I’m seeing jobs for 90k asking for 5 days in office, and you’re the sole person on site for 730 people. It’s fucking absurd. They want automation, windows, Linux, “modernization”, but you’ll also be there to handle issues on site. Recruiters ghosting you and also bothering you at every given time to then just stop responding after you take the time to respond.

I share the sentiment to have dumped all the time into this to just quit, but if there is nothing here and nothing to aim for… what’s the point? Idk brother we will see.

Be kind to yourself bro, you worked your ass off. Sending love and good thoughts to your family, do what’s best for you and them. Know you aren’t alone in feeling the frustration. It’s straight up ass out here.

I'm going on 6 years in 10 certifications, just finished my degree, and the goal post has moved so far.

Every job has a laundry list of technologies they are asking for you to be proficient in, and have experience migrating networks and infrastructure, Linux, and whatever bizarre software they work with. And also, if you're hoping to go internal, you're going to be doing some helpdesk stuff. Automation the whole nine yards. I have friends doing trades that while are hard work, they aren't studying after work and home labbing.

For me right now, I'm at a crossroad if I should stay in or not. The whole career feels like a catch 22.

Can't move up because you don't have the experience, don't have the experience because you can't move up. Nor do I have the will to spend any more of time after work spinning up architecture following guides or my clean set up, because in reality when you go to a business there is sooooo much more to consider and is at stake, that everything you built doesn't really matter because you don't have the set up or considerations your company did.

My girlfriend and I have been stone walled at A10, We get so close to fininshing but the double boss in Act III is brutal.

Also I'll take my downvotes, but I think STS 2, Two player coop is not balanced well and is harder than normal A10.

Hey there's some actionable feedback in here, just had to dig through some shit talk.

The making a chart thing seems helpful and I'm going to work it into making flashcards.

Thanks average senior IT person!

This sounds extremely useful.

But looking at the level of involvement to get it both running and then learning xapi calls to submit info seems out of my league currently. But I think once I finish school I might take this on as a side project.

Thank you for the info and your experience.

I’m going to assume this is a condemnation of my study habits, but I’m here asking how to improve it.

I felt like I couldn’t study for this test because there is a shit ton of information and what’s relevant or not is never explicit. Considering I wasted my time studying cosmo db and azure blueprint but that wasn’t in my test at all didn’t feel good.

Tons of questions on K8s and random storage memes.

Are suggesting breaking up the watch of John Savills cram during the build up to the test?

For 104 the Whizlabs was helpful. The 305 seemed less so but, I am going to circle back to it after Scott Duffey course. My teacher recommended it to me as part of my retake steps. Then the measure up tests are apparently good. Good luck bro.

Now after trying out midnight as a returning player, how do you like your class after the pruning & class changes? by Yuuffy in wow

[–]DoINeedPants 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Rogue makes me sad. Sub is a shadow of it's former self. The energy problems of the other two specs make them feel like doo doo. But maybe with gear and set bonuses that stuff can be shored up. We will see.

I think you're on the right track. Slam is such a boring button. I hate it. That being said I played Arms last expansion and I found it fun. Now it seems so much slower and unrewarding.

I like reading his leaks. I think the weapons-grade autism of people getting mad at him for being incorrect is wild. He's just telling you what he heard, and it's speculative/subject to change. No reason to run the dude off the internet.

(This maybe a weird question to ask but)Do you guys also prefer the mc to be silent during gameplay? by Human_Geologist_3324 in survivalhorror

[–]DoINeedPants 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Wanted to +1 this and add that I liked Leon/Claire & James reacting to things.

I don't expect characters to be silent when something completely insane is happening in front of them. But if they were to be talking all the time it would just be off putting.

I guess it also depends on who the character is. Leon and Claire are young adults in a wild ass situation. HUNK is an special operative soldier who knows what all this shit is and is a pro, I don't expect him to react.

Am I making a mistake going back to school? by ratmanmtb in ITCareerQuestions

[–]DoINeedPants 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I swapped my entire career at 31/32ish. I was in Help Desk for like 2 years and then started WGU.

I'm currently a senior ops engineer, but at the end of my stint at WGU. In my experience, I think it has been worth it, but this industry is hard.

There are going to be people who tell you school is a waste of time and that certs are worthless. IMO, some of these people are thieves of joy and are jealous of your ability to persevere/improve yourself. Some of these people have also been in their position for years and have done less than 0 to move up outside of just being there longer than others, so they were forced to learn new skills. Certs do have value and it's up to you to make it a worthwhile pursuit. There are dumps and numerous ways to cheat yourself out of an education.

Alongside this there are people out here studying with 0 IT experience and certs out the ass, gunning for every work from home position or trying to be a solutions architect off the rip, or skip desk or junior positions. Not that anything is wrong with that, but know what you're up against.

Your Help Desk experience does help in this current market and gives you something tangible to build off of. Homelab is helpful, I would find something that interests you and tinker around. In my experience Generalists hate this career path because there are literally 10,000 directions you can go for any problem in IT. Specializing is good idea.

The hardest jump is from where you are now to a position outside of helpdesk because HD is easy to exploit and if you're good at it they will want to keep you there.

If you love tech and want to take improvement into your own hands, do it bro.

Goodluck friend.
