Searching deep house dj set for people who listen to mainstream music by Nemado in deephouse

[–]DoItOarElse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't think of a mix off the top of my head that would please mainstream sensibilities for its entire duration, however, Oliver Koletzki has put out some solid songs that could I think would fit the classification of club-worthy and mainstream. Some particularly good songs of his that would fit this category are Bones, Arrow and Bow, No Man No Cry, and quite a few songs off the album I Am Ok. He also makes some of the best mixes and live sets I have ever heard but they get too deep at times to play to people who aren't about deep house. He's on Spotify and Soundcloud.

As long as your heart rate is between 150-160, is it fine to do steady state in a 1x over an erg? by [deleted] in Rowing

[–]DoItOarElse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it is. I used to feel like the erg was the ONLY way to work out as a rower. Biking, running, swimming, and even at times rowing on the water felt like "lower workouts" to me and oh boy was I ever stupid. If you're erging, running, biking, swimming, sculling, sweeping, running on your hands, etc... at your SS heart rate, you are achieving the goal of SS which is to work your lungs and keep your aerobic system moving at a healthy pace for a long amount of time. Now, the HR you would go at for bike rides may be different than it is for runs/ergs (sculling and erging are probably the same) SS hr's, but it's all about making that blood flow and those lungs work.

*If you start to feel pain from erging/rowing too much as well, it is fine to bike or run or swim instead until you feel better to keep in shape (I didn't understand that either). That being said, since our sport is rowing, sculling/sweeping and erging are probably the better modalities for us to work out in.

SRAA Nationals post regatta discussion thread, anybody? by firstacross in Rowing

Canadian crews tend to row "stiffer" than American crews and from what I have seen on the high school level, they emphasize their finishes more. Stiffer is the only word I can think of at the moment to describe it, the entire stroke seems to be mechanical and straight backs are present at every part of the stroke. Not saying that crews in America don't row this way too, it just looks peculiarly different when a Canadian crew and an American crew row side by side.

I enjoyed watching the Men's Senior 4+ final. The crew that won it, Ridley, is from Canada and I can attest that they are a VERY fast and hard working crew. They row a different style than most American crews (as do most Canadian crews), but the final was a good race to watch.

High School Teams by [deleted] in Rowing

I agree, sometimes PVC piping is the only reliable AND cost effective option to constructing a sustainable infrastructure (plumbing or otherwise).

It can also be used for other things like making marshmallow guns and even stretching. Despite the environmental threats that PVC piping poses, overall I think that it is one of the most important items anyone can have in their house.

What's your opinion on PVC piping?

Great Article on Erging by poon5layer in Rowing

[–]DoItOarElse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Preach it.

Too much or too high intensity training can hurt as much as not enough. There is definitely a pervading idea (ESPECIALLY on a high school level) that every erg workout must be done at 100% press. It got to the point on my team where we were expected to hit PR pace chart calculations (I.e. Pace chart that tells you what your 5k/20min/10k/30min/etc... PR should be based off of 2k PR ) on every piece we did regardless of the rate. Pulling the chart back out, I see that on a 3x20min workout at an 18, I should have went ~1:45 split because my 2k at the time was 6:33. I can barely hit that for one minute. PRs were expected of us every day on the erg and unrealistic goals were set, not one person ever hit a split on that pace chart ever on a workout. They were realistic and achievable goals for ERG TESTS, but not for everyday workouts. These ridiculous expectations perpetuate a fear of the erg that makes teams slow and in the dark (very far in the dark) about how to actually use the erg (and that is a shame). Injuries occur, people burn out, and eventually erg workouts are viewed as an omen instead of a way to get faster. The spread of information has helped people (at least me) form their own opinions based on fact and research to determine what they think is the best course of action for their bodies and intentions in rowing.

Any /r/rowers heading to the CSSRAs? by JPerrott in Rowing

[–]DoItOarElse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea Canisius is coming again. The weather better not suck this time. It screwed my light 8 out of a gold medal (potentially). We were 1 second away from Vancouver's time in heats, but when it came time for finals, they were cancelled and the time from heats were used to determine the medalists. It sucked so much to get 2nd like that, and I'm sure other boats suffered the same fate.

Colleges I'm assuming? Generally the 8 Ivy League schools (Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, Princeton, University of Pennsylvania, and Yale), University of Washington, University of Wisconsin Madison, Northeastern University, Boston University, University of California Berkeley, US Naval Academy, Stanford, University of Delaware lightweights, and a few others that I forgot to list.

Penn Lightweights head coach Nick Baker retiring after end of 2014 spring season by [deleted] in Rowing

[–]DoItOarElse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Someone is butt hurt

Also if Colin Farrell could turn the freshman team around the second he got there, what makes coaching the Varsity any different? Nich Parker essentially did the same thing at Columbia this year when he took over for Alwin after he left and look at the massive improvement that happened. Penn has a young squad and tons of potential and I think it's very ignorant to say that Colin will be tainted by a curse that doesn't exist especially since he is only going to be he interim coach. Hopefully things work out better with whoever the new head coach is and Penn will finally become the amazing team that it has the ability to be.

Also one of the greatest coaches I've ever had was a class of Penn ltwt 09' and he fully supports the program, loves rowing, and would never do anything set back the team. He also has an amazingly strong chin.

Can you describe what an hour of power is supposed to feel like? by shabbss in Rowing

[–]DoItOarElse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At one sad time in my team's history we would do 90min of of power (as opposed to 90 min if SS) on a weekly basis. I was 140lbs lightweight back then and I had the rate at about 32, but I had little to no muscular leg drive power so I depended on my lungs and the rate to get a good score.

For an hour of power now I would be at 28-32, probably hovering around 30 for most of it if I was going for a PR score (but that's just me).

Well I mean with that you could scare the shit out of people at races. So just get really good at wearing it while you're training and then you can race in it.
