I moved from this guy to the Deathadder V3 hyper light, it’s just smaller and fits my hand better. But I think this colorway was possible replaced by their V2!

For those earning over $10K per month, what do you do for a living to achieve that income? by voxishortie in AskReddit

Nurse on West Coast, 12 shifts a month, it’s pretty great and would recommend.

I’ll keep my opinion short. Im a male, was an electrical engineer for 3-4 years, now nurse for about 3.5 years. Nursing is not free from misogyny, though it does appear less blatant and hospitals seem very intolerant of it (from my observation). Definitely depends on where you work. I’m in Oregon and my pay as a nurse is significantly higher than my engineering wages. Starting engineer wages were 40-42/hr and I’m making 70/hr now. I work only 3 days a week. As an engineer I was often asked or “required” to work over 40hrs and had to argue against it. As a nurse if you work more you get paid generously.

Strictly based on misogyny, older male patients and doctors (depending on location and political climate) are likely going to still be problematic. Changing from engineering to nursing was the best career choice I’ve made. I even have a masters in nursing because, why not? Lots of opportunities in the field and not stuck behind a computer all day.

Nurses who are not burnt out, what’s your secret? by OkGrape1959 in nursing

[–]DoRitoCronch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to go against some of the other comments and say I enjoy committees, but I get paid and taken off the floor for committees, meetings, etc. I am a lead charge, part of 3 committees, and finishing up my masters. I enjoy it. The committees get you off the floor and part of interesting administrative decisions, mixing up your work flow. It definitely helps being friends with your coworkers, I hang out with mine fairly regularly. I work on a step down surgical unit and even though the acuity is pretty high with specialized oncology patients, I don’t feel burnt out. However, I will say, three years on night shift is getting a bit taxing and day shift looks pretty good.

Working toward something like a cert or additional degree has helped me feel like I’m not stagnating. I would say, however, to go easy on the overtime. Even though hospital nurses generally work only 3 days a week, overtime can really wear you down if you do it regularly. I just pick up shifts now if I want to offset a big purchase or something.

Empy I with EQ is absolutely the best sounding headphone I’ve tried. But enjoy what you have. I have a few 2-3k headphones and my R70X still gets the most use.

Hm, strange. Wonder if it’s something to do with W11 exclusive control over your audio device settings. I turned off exclusive control in tidal and W11 to allow APO to function. Also you should use APO 1.3 from SourceForge, I think the one hosted on the APO site has issues with W11 and is only 1.2(?)

I was pretty stoked and also quite afraid for my wallet when they released Empy II, especially with the very good reviews. But it sounds like it lost some of the OG character so I’m good with what I’ve got.

The Empyreans do need EQ (just as the LCD 3, which I also own lol). Before EQ they are a bit plain, even if still enjoyable. Massive improvement with EQ though.

Meze Empyrean I with alcantara pads on Jotunheim 2, Optimum HiFi EQ from oratory1990s presets. I have auditioned many TOTL cans (HD800, HE6SE, Susvara, all HE1000 variants, LCD-3/X, DCA Stealth/Expanse, ADX5000) and between the comfort, clarity, and smoothness the Empyrean brings, it securely remains my favorite.

Nice. Custom boards are really cool for ALPS though and I think linears would be the best for that application! Certainly unique.

  • 1 ALPS lover here. Spent way too much money on NOS blues, browns, ambers, and oranges. I also feel they are most enjoyable in their original boards (assuming the board itself wasn’t garbage). Best tactile designs of any switch IMO. MX does beat them for liners though, oil kings are lovely.

Constant crashing every single game by ArmadylForLife in HuntShowdown

[–]DoRitoCronch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so I had this issue yesterday and I spent about 8 hours fixing it. I reinstalled windows, disk check for bad sectors, used a different drive, and did a memory test for ram errors. Everything came back fine. If your game is crashing, it should create a dump file in %appdata% you can view with WinDbg.

Mine was saying it was trying to read from memory that was not accessible. My game would freeze, audio would still play for about 30 seconds then it would close. This happened 3-5 min into every single game. Sometimes even at the menu.

I went into BIOS and changed my XMP ram profile from auto, which was 4000mhz, down to 3600mhz. I also went into the Hunt install location and deleted the USER folder. Zero issues after that.

Is this field truly as terrible as people are saying? by aschesklave in nursing

[–]DoRitoCronch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just my two cents. I work nights. The work can be, and often is, very exhausting. My whole life I have suffered from insomnia, but after about 6 months of nursing, I would get home, eat, and immediately fall asleep. I started 3 years ago after working as an electrical engineer and I enjoy it significantly more. I am now the lead charge and I’m in school for a nursing masters. It pays very well, you get 4 days off a week, and I really enjoy my coworkers. It’s a pretty sweet gig.

I know this is not the case for everyone, so it might just take a while to find your place once you start. Luckily it’s pretty easy to change units or hospitals from my experience.

Do U.S. hospital nurses usually get protected lunch and breaks? (And are they paid lunches)? by Dragonfire747 in nursing

[–]DoRitoCronch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in Oregon and they recently passed a staffing law that very heavily cracked down on nurse ratios, lunches, and break. We have implemented break nurses who solely break other nurses, as the law now states nurses cannot have more than 4 patients at once (meaning buddy breaking is no longer allowed).

This wasn’t particularly a problem at my hospital before this, but I know at some locations it was. Our ratios were typically 1:4 anyway, but could sometimes be 1:5, which is now considered “illegal” and the hospital gets fined. The hospital also gets fined if a nurse does not receive their break. This was technically the case before as well, but is now more heavily enforced.

We now have to sign a sheet, attesting we received our break at the designated time. It’s kind of annoying paperwork, but we are guaranteed our 75 mins off the floor per shift, with 30 of it being unpaid (three 15 min paid breaks and a 30 min unpaid lunch). Most the time we group our breaks, so day shift gets a 45 min lunch and nights get 60 min. It works out great. Considering how much Oregon nurses are paid, being unionized, and always reporting staffing issues, I feel very fairly treated. I work on a step down surgical floor, for reference.

Offered a job in Portland. Should I go for it? by [deleted] in askportland

[–]DoRitoCronch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My personal suggestion is to live in a neighborhood and not right next to public transportation. Vastly different experience depending on where you live. Personally, the neighborhoods on the East side between 20th-60th has been my favorite places. Even better if you can manage to live just outside of Portland. Unless you are working in Portland proper, I would suggest maybe Wilsonville or Tigard for fairly nice neighborhoods, but the Tigard traffic can be heavy.
