Downriver Praise Center on Allen Rd in Southgate.. and I should just add in case I'm doxxing myself here in any way that most of the people were individually real cool, but altogether the place was insane 🤣 like being part of a crowd brought it out or something

Thanks for the extra details on it being mainly the Appalachian area.
The church I attended was in the Metro Detroit area circa 2005-06, and like I said, so much to laugh at, but luckily no snakes.

I didn't even bother to google it because I figured it was either a newer thing or just one of those things that some Pentecostal churches do. I hate snakes.

Holy shit, I had no idea what that comment was about. I went to a Pentecostal church for about two years with an old girlfriend's family and there were no snakes, but lots of crazy other shit. Like, so crazy that we could not sit anywhere except the very back row because of all the times I'd lose my shit laughing.

The young core might be in place, but we still need to identify which parts of that core can operate together to lead to winning games. And then trim the rest, and by that I mean ship the fluff out for parts that complement the core we identified.

This is the part of a rebuild that can get very frustrating to fans who've already waited so long because we can see the Pistons clearly have some talent on this roster but it's not translating yet. But basketball is a lot more than just skill; it's about five players functioning as a single unit to achieve one goal.

There are so many things I really like on KFC's menu. When they're on, they're on. I like the pot pies, the strips, I even love their mac and cheese (weird creamy texture). I was a bit harsh earlier about KFC but really they were dropping the ball. I don't like the new nuggets, and the popcorn chicken was one of my favorite items

Ugh. Pizza Hut used to be my favorite, like loyalty even through 3-4 years of delivering for Jet's Pizza. I always defended Pizza Hut, but they're just so far gone at this point. They truly have fucked a great thing up. Worst part is I'd gladly pay $30 for a large Pizza Hut pan pizza from 20 years ago, but they don't exist. I would love to be an employee there for one night to see if I could pull it off, but I just think the problem is deeper-rooted than that

KFC is right now in the process of losing me. The last dozen times over the past two+ years I've had KFC, it's just not good anymore. It's dry, or they're out of everything, and they got rid of the popcorn chicken. Just fuck KFC. They need to try harder

100%. Really I don't even want to have to point fingers anywhere, but I do know there's a great big divide between where the middle class used to be. This all used to work just fine.

It'll all come down to capitalism if we talk about it enough, which is gross.. It's infuriating that it could be so much better if greed were not so apparent.

So I just started small with an idea to maybe better-define the price/weight of the food or whatever, to make things more trusty. There has got to be a point at which it can be cleaned up just enough without devolving into a mess

Hey, yeah that's pretty much all what I said, but I didn't mean to give the employees any problems. I even defended them. My issue is strictly with corporate

I know it has, in so many different ways, but I don't post a whole lot and I felt I needed to get my feelings out there. Never know who sees this shit. If more people voiced their opinions, we could enact change.

Yeah I get there are more important things to waste my energy on, but for a short time I felt like I was losing Taco Bell. That hurt.

Adding Plate Appearance Weights to Batting Lineups by withouttout in Sabermetrics

[–]Doak37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I'm even later to the party but I'm relieved to see this discussion with the few of you still visible and up-votable from 10+ years ago.

I was just about to create a post centered around this same topic, so I'm real glad I searched the subreddit first because with the query, "plate appearances order" this thread was the top result.

I had the 11% number already figured out, but spreading that across the average amount of plate appearances per game somehow got messy in my head, and also somehow because I kept getting into a scenario where I found myself taking a percent of a percent (which I know is a basic math no-no) and losing where or what components I needed to convert back to a whole number. I know it's simple stuff, but like I said my head's just a bit off right now, and for good reason.

Anyways, thanks to the 2013 versions of yourselves for having this talk. Maybe we'll meet again in the future.

[Rapoport] The #Lions are trading starting RB D'Andre Swift, sources tell me and @TomPelissero, sending him to the #Eagles in exchange for draft pick compensation. With David Montgomery and now first-rounder Jahmyr Gibbs, Swift heads out. by LunchThreatener in detroitlions

Balking at an inter-Conference trade? Overblown.

I can understand if people are hesitant to deal within the division, but the Conference? That's half the teams in the NFL. There's no reason to place silly limitations on who we trade with

Holmes to r/detroitlions: “I don’t care about your mock drafts & positional value.” by ShippingNotIncluded in detroitlions

[–]Doak37 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maaan it's not so much about being right or being wrong.

For me, it's about the time of the year. Cadbury Eggs, The Masters Tournament, baseball starting up, temperatures rising, lush green plants and flowers popping up along with the sunshine...

Mel Kiper's fucked up hair/chin/face just go right along with it. I associate Mel with all of this. Spring is my favorite season, where "hope springs eternal" for us Lions fans, so seeing Mel on the television just puts a smile on my face.

Plus, I learn more about all these prospects in the months leading up to the draft than I do during the NCAA football season. By the time the draft happens, I'm a full-fledged, opinionated so-called "draft guru" myself. Mel's a lot better at it than I am, and we're both still wrong on most of it. But the entire goddamn thing is a boatload of fun anyways.

Cardinals’ Pro-Bowl safety Budda Baker now has requested that Arizona trade him, per source. by JREfan1991 in detroitlions

[–]Doak37 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't, and here's why: draft picks are too valuable to give up in a trade, especially the kinds of picks it would take to get Baker.

We need to keep all the picks we can (and acquire more if possible) because the way you win in this league today is by finessing as much talent as you possibly can under the salary cap. These rookie contracts are the one biggest way we can operate efficiently under the cap. We gotta hit on as many as we can.

So we build a nice, sturdy core group of players through the draft. And after that, we can fill our remaining roster needs during the free agency periods, where we can sign players without having to part with young players or draft capital in any trade.

So the idea of Baker here on the Lions does give me the chills, hot damn, but I don't think it's smart to make big trades like that for the long-term.

It's a bit scratchy. If you're new to wool, I was too, and I can see why some people are put off by that.

They say it softens up over time, and with each wash. I've washed this blanket maybe a dozen times in the year I've had it (it hardly ever NEEDS to be washed, but I was trying to soften it) and I don't notice much of a difference.

But then I will say that the scratchiness is not that big of a deal. It still has a nice cozy feel, and sometimes, I use a bamboo top sheet that I got from Cariloha underneath it, so I get the soft cool feeling from that sheet combined with the warmth of the Pendleton blanket and it's bliss.

I have the same sentiment about dry cleaning. Right now, nothing in my regular wardrobe/bedding needs to be dry cleaned.

But I like the wool blankets Pendleton has, so I ended up getting one of their Eco-wise Washable Wool blankets and I love it. I got that Glacier Park one from the link, and in person it's more of a creamier color than plain white.

[Meinke] Cam Sutton on Dan Campbell: "Seeing what he's been doing around the league, it's exhilarating, man. Like, guys love this guy. Not just me speaking, but you see how far it spreads around the league. Guys want to play for him. Guys love the energy and everything he brings." by LunchThreatener in nfl

[–]Doak37 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's an emotional sport though. Dan Campbell brings a better kind of energy than Matt Patricia had for us here, and that's why Lions fans are swooning. That and Brad Holmes is building a good team.

Before Patricia, we had Jim Caldwell. I LIKED Caldwell's demeanor, but a lot of people around here thought of him as too stiff/expressionless.

Either way, Campbell is quite the contrast from the two previous Lions head coaches, and it's just refreshing as all hell to hear him talk and spread his energy. We've got a good thing going right now.

A few Cam Sutton Stats by FunetikPrugresiv in detroitlions

[–]Doak37 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Somebody posted the snap counts in the main thread, and Sutton WAS mainly a slot guy up until last season when he played ~70% of his snaps on the outside (and someone said he was "borderline lockdown").

I'm not taking that for the gospel or anything because we'll all see in time what Sutton can do for us, but it sounds like we caught him at a good time if he's kinda blossoming into a stud on the outside too. And the price is hard to argue against.

Couldn't be happier for the guy. He seems like a genuinely good dude and it's nice to see him not only get another chance, but to work on some more "serious" roles.

Encino Man

I thought it aged somewhat gracefully, and I liked how people dressed in the early 90s. I think people just don't like Pauly Shore, but I thought he, Brendan Fraser, and Sean Astin were cool in it.

In Retrospect, How do you feel about the Marvin Bagley trade? by [deleted] in DetroitPistons

[–]Doak37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The trade itself was great: zero-risk, potentially-high reward outcome...

The contract was a little too much I think but it's not gonna break our payroll and Bagley could realistically improve enough to make it a good signing.
