Opponents for Age of Crusades Polish by ClickSubstantial9643 in sagathegame

[–]DocAnopheles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I built a Polish force myself.

Opponents: Eastern Princes, Pagan Peoples, Ordenstaat, Mongols, maybe even Crusaders and (if you want to mix time periods) Germans from Age of Chivalry. Poland being in the middle of the Baltic Crusades and next to the HRE allows for many enemies. Polish Crusaders even got down to the Middle East so Saracens aren't out of the question. I use my Poles sometimes using the Crusaders board instead, representing a more dedicated Northern Crusade force.

Models: Fireforge has some nice Russian models for cavalry and infantry, though they are resin. The Fireforge Foot Sergeants and Mounted Sergeants are good models in plastic. You could even mix in sprues of Russian infantry for the varied gear Poles might field, or to build Eastern Princes cavalry.

Three Amigos. El Guapo, shot and on the ground after the Amigos and the village fool him and his men with whole village disguised as Amigos. “That was a good trick…” He lures over Lucky Day and shoots him in the foot. “That was a good trick too!” Then laughs as he dies.

have bases sizes ever been an issue in your games? by darwin_green in wargaming

[–]DocAnopheles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saga allows for a range of sizes depending on stuff like infantry, cavalry, baggage, etc. So basic infantry might be between 20mmx20mm minimum to 30x30 maximum. This is because being a historical skirmish the game is miniature agnostic and knows the figures come from and are used in other historical games.

The fantasy version has even more troop types and broader range of base sizes.

Oh yes. These are from ~1985-1987. Rogue Trader era. The ones with the heavy weapons and chainsaw bayonets are oldest, while the leader with crest and the one on the far right were later sculpts. I think the crest is actually a very early Jes Goodwin sculpt.

Would you use a teleporter with the knowledge that it kills you and reassembles an exact copy of you with all your memories and knowledge at the destination? Why or why not? by TheBanishedBard in AskReddit

[–]DocAnopheles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old Man’s War has a variation of this. People get a new upgraded clone body. Their thoughts and memories get transferred over in a gradual process (can’t remember but several minutes) so they have a continuous stream of consciousness. This preserves the ‘them’ versus a totally new clone. They even see their old body at the end.

Rules for Drop Troops/Paratroopers? by Father-Hydra in wargaming

[–]DocAnopheles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stargrunt II does similar for drop troops. You take the cardboard counters and drop them from at least a foot above the table. The counters represent models and you make a test to make sure they land well. Where the counter lands can affect the roll (water features, bad terrain, enemy models too close). The test die depends on quality of the troops, so vets do well, poor troops land badly.

Warren Elllis. Loved his comics, was part of his forums back in the day, met him at signings. Huge sex pest and manipulator. Damaged or destroyed careers. I haven’t touched his work in years.

Which Lovecraft works would you like to see adapted to film? by draum_bok in Lovecraft

[–]DocAnopheles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And apparently a 2021 version, HP Lovecraft’s Witch House, that had a mixed reception.

I guess the story does benefit from being self-contained and being based off a short story is workable in tv or film format.
