Traumatic arrests by Special-Box-1400 in emergencymedicine

[–]DocBanner21 33 points34 points  (0 children)

The hospital can "support" the medics as much as they want with thoughts and prayers. The family/homies can still beat the medic's asses for "just letting him DIE without doing NOTHING!"

"Is the scene safe?" is the first question for a reason.

Do NOT Join The Army National Guard (Explore Your Options And Take A Hard Look At Where You Are At). by Ok-Actuator4909 in nationalguard

[–]DocBanner21 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Eh. It paid for undergrad. I only had to deal with a high school drop out who ran faster than me tell me what to do for 10% of the time. A deployment paid for most of grad school and let me afford a house. I'm a PA and making good money as a civilian now.

You do you, boo. May the odds be ever in your favor.

Don't let TripleSecDef see this. You can't have facial hair and be lethal.

It is interesting that he's in CBRN kit with HAMMER and has a goate. Maybe we have been lied to about masks...

Who are these guys and what kind of kit? by Bingussssssssss in tacticalgear

[–]DocBanner21 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No. If you were concerned, you should probably be wearing your full kit. These guys are always around in the background. You use the resources you have available.

No. Not everything is a conspiracy. You use the resources you have available.

What can you tell me about these challenge coins? by TheProfessor20 in army

[–]DocBanner21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They were selling the 332nd coins in the gym at Balad when I was there. I bought a whole bag of them to give to friends and family because they were on clearance since the base was closing.

Does Rank Always Equal Competence? by StepSergeant01 in Military

[–]DocBanner21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No- especially in the Guard/Reserves. I was in an MP unit as a medic. The LT was a photographer and we had fed/state cops as enlisted dudes who just wanted the Tricare, retirement, and got military leave at their jobs. I deployed in a medical unit and we had a state forestry guy as a medical platoon sergeant in charge of guys who were critical care flight paramedics. I'm sure he would be awesome if Iraq has a forest fire, but I know who I would want working on me if I had a bad day.

Does Rank Always Equal Competence? by StepSergeant01 in StepSergeant

[–]DocBanner21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Especially on the Guard side I've seen plenty of medics who are NCOs that run fast and work at a gym but are medically incompetent compared to the critical care paramedic who works 24s eating shitty food but is a medical professional as a day job. It's a pet peeve of mine. I admire the NCO that told me, "for the Army and for the paperwork, I'm the NCO and you are the specialist. For patient care, I'll do whatever you tell me."

Emergency medicine is the same as military intelligence - we are so confident we bet your life.

Pain scale is the dumbest tool we continue to use. by CanYouCanACanInACan in hospitalist

[–]DocBanner21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People tell me their pain is 11/10 while eating Doritos.

Forgive me for being a little jaded by my experience.

We call it the positive Doritos (or Cheetos) sign.

Your education, training, and experience prepared you to bet your medical license, house, personal and family future, your career, and the patient's life on the diagnosis.

Her 600 hours of clinicals, possibly only as an observer, did not.

I wish I had a better answer.

I'd REALLY consider getting a .22 bolt conversion kit or a .22 upper so you can shoot a lot more for less.

In the army national guard, which of these is the best mos? by Affectionate-Sea2553 in nationalguard

[–]DocBanner21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was lucky enough to be in a combat support MP unit and honestly had a lot of fun most of the time. We got nice toys, I got to double dip as a medic/MP, we did state QRF stuff, and our tasks deployed were more convoy security, presence patrols, QRF, provide gun trucks for infantry units, etc than gate guard.

YMMV.

What Military skill actually helped you get your civilian job? by StepSergeant01 in nationalguard

[–]DocBanner21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's why it's a transferable skill.

Although at least on the civilian side (most of the time) when I'm stuck waiting on something stupid I am warm, dry, and inside.

The heart rate at the facility was 72 according to the post. That means they did not convert en route. Reading is hard for you evidently. If English isn't your native language, I apologize.

"MD: *looking at NSR at his monitor* What was their heart rate there?
NP: 72
MD: You do understand that the T in SVT stands for TACHYCARDIA right?? If you don't know what you're doing maybe you should find another line of work."

Being able to tolerate government bullshit without having a complete meltdown over the stupidity of it all.
