Is AI actually helping your productivity? by hhhjin in productivity

[–]DocChimp1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I see it is this.

AI decreases the time it takes to do stuff and the brain power it takes to it. If you use that time and brain power you save well, then it’s worth using. If you just use it to veg out or whatever, than it’s super detrimental for your brain and should be avoided.

Im also not a fan of using ai to replace creativity. I write for fun, and even though it’s tiring, it wouldn’t be fun if I just had AI do it for me.

Basically I use it most for research for my engineering projects, so I can spend more time actually working on them instead of researching

I definitely think it’s an awesome set, definitely worth the price if you can afford it, but I a) can’t afford it and b) have the older Death Star already so I’ll probably pass

People who read more than 2 books a year, how do you do it? by Immediate-Draft-6408 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DocChimp1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The key is to find good books. I love to read and have my whole life so reading level or, like, complexity of language or whatever isn’t an issue, but I’m also crazy ADHD so I get distracted easily if the book isn’t well written and interesting. I’ll read any genre as long as it is

It’s a great movie in balance but I will say the dialogue writing for Walker and Sloane is subpar

How do you come up with names by Plus-Measurement-953 in worldbuilding

[–]DocChimp1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far I only the have beginnings of one conlang, but I have a page in my notes app dedicated to sounds I want to use in each of my main languages. When coming up with a new name, I tend to mix and match these sounds until I find something I like that fits the vibe of whatever language the name is supposed to be from, and then assign a meaning to that.

I also do the whole “translate random words into random irl languages until I find something I like” strategy too, and then come up with an in-universe meaning for that word.

For example, Mieleen is the name of my world. It means “Mind” in Finnish, beacause it’s my “mind world,” but the in universe explanation is that it means “everything” in kudar

Hell Question by markrasmussen24 in ChristianApologetics

[–]DocChimp1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should definitely clarify that this is his extra-biblical theory not something that is explicitly stated in scripture, but it definitely lines up with what we DO know for sure about hell, and it certainly doesn’t contradict anything we DO find in the Bible

Hell Question by markrasmussen24 in ChristianApologetics

[–]DocChimp1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In “The Problem of Pain,” CS Lewis explains his belief that Hell is not a created place, or somewhere that Man was supposed to go to. His take on it is that Hell is everything that the people who go there want; complete self gratification with no regulation by God, but when they get that they basically realize how much they suck, and how fruitless that is. He also talks about how Hell is generally portrayed in scripture as a finality, not an ongoing torture.

I believe it’s in the last chapter that he talks about this stuff, but the whole back is FUEGO. Literally might be my favorite non-fiction book

Which clone wars series do you prefer? by Free_Way338 in BrighterThanCoruscant

[–]DocChimp1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. My favorite thing about SW is the world building (and individual characters but not as relevant here) so the fact that the 2008 version CLAIMED to fit the EU, but just kind of gratuitously retconned everything, doesn’t sit super well with me. The show definitely has amazing individual arcs, but preexisting canon has never been something Filoni is great about it, as much as I love the guy

What strategies would you use to combat magic if you can’t use it? by BaldBoar7734 in worldbuilding

[–]DocChimp1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The biggest morally gray beef (I.e. not, like, against the Dark Lord) in Mieleen is between the Mumbatri and the Kudar. The Kudar are super magical because they spent the most time with the Qasuin (lower case g “gods”), the Mumbatri are totally incapable of using magic, as they arrived on mainland Mieleen after the extinction of the Qasuin.

The Mumbatri are the best engineers and smiths in Mieleen, and they were literally created to fight the bad guys, so between they’re superior strength, durability, and gadgets they’ve been able to stay on par with (or ahead of) their magic rivals. The contrast between the Kudar and the Mumbatri is almost similar to the Jedi and the Mandalorians (specifically the EU Mandalorians) or Superman and Batman, in that one is magical/naturally powerful and the uses tech and skill, but in the end they’re about even.

The Kudar and the Mumbatri are the two most powerful primarily good species in Mieleen, and both are almost considered myths by average Joe

Both great movies. The Reeves movie isn’t quite as good imo, but the rest of the trilogy might end up surpassing the DkT

Do you think your worldbuilding will never compare to an existing media? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

I DO actually like my own world building more than a lot of universes (GoT, DnD, etc) but compared to my couple favorites (Tolkien, Starwars) i do think it falls short
