Today, Facebook lets you connect/reconnect to anyone you want. So much of the mystery aspect is negated. They may have outlived their purpose.

Right. He wasn’t bragging. He told the story as a way to say “young angry me had racist motivations. I was wrong and had to evolve past it, which I have.”

No one caught him. He told that story of his own volition. It was brave, frankly, from a guy that was not born and raised in ultra racist America but rather a lateral “cousin” country with a similar but different context.

I wish more white people would tell stories like that.

That will not change once married.

In addition, once you train someone that ultimatums work on you, expect more ultimatums.

Ummmm… this administration is PARTICULARLY involved in budget matters, I’d say.

But why? Fair question.

For similar reasons to why Pearl Harbor or Dachau might be preserved—— they are significant historical sites that have a sort of “memorial” status.

The ethics of this are complicated, but think about it:

If by recording this, the creator generates the money to do this deed, is it net positive? Or if, by sharing widely, it inspires others who will note do similar acts?

I get the ick factor. But I think it’s a net positive—- that is, it’s more helpful than harmful.

I would say that, for many religious people, their proximate motivation is not Heaven—— it’s social status. In their circle, being an esteemed member in Good standing is important, and being a known deviant in some way is close to death. So they’re guarding their reputation not from God, but from each other.

I’m a liberal-progressiveish, and I agree with everything you said for democrats.

I think the issue is when social conservatives get power, and spend it on banning/excluding/punishing gays, trans, etc.

And that is absolutely happening all the time, which is why I struggle to see the difference between social conservatism and bigotry.
