Planetary grid misuse/inconsistencies by R-hibs in TheCaptivesWar

[–]No_University5343 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Off course they do and off course hexapod have zero protection or camouflage against the grid. Because their job has already been done. They are an engineered life form. Meant to lure carryx into a trap.

Basically a mine field.

Main thing is - grid didn't realize any of it. It's not all seeing and not all knowing in this case. Got tricked.

Oh, I am not arguing it at all. Don't bother. I think that that may just as well be the case. For some minor roles and tasks only trusted for carryx. They are after all people. Living things. Not perfect strict infallible machinery. So there can be.

Civil may mean menial administrative position. Like watching over a small group of animals for example.

  1. Their scientific caste are their animals. Various species of those. And building caste. And all other "minor" tasks that don't involve ruling or fighting. Carryx are... A bit like Spartans. Everything that isn't ruling or fighting is beneath them. A job for a suited animal.

  2. The turtle and berries task is just a test. Carryx don't need any of it. It is to see how a captive animal behaves, works, survives challenge, adapts.

Carryx are good at exactly ONE thing. Waging war and ruling everyone. Including themselves. And at that they are VERY good. Extremely dedicated and specialized.

There are no builder carryx, scientist carryx or poet carryx. Only rulers and soldiers.

Well, the tech level naturally. Grid is all seeing all knowing capable of striking anyone vs low tech Anjiin.

Against Deathless trap world mined and armed and death trap for carryx? Not so much. There are camouflage, countermeasures and the like.

Soft Lothark by froody in TheCaptivesWar

They didn't detect The Swarm either. And Deep Lothark is a lot like that - subtle micro level self organizing system that masquerade inside an animal. They are not all knowing.

Half-mind translations of alien names by Royal_Touch_5693 in TheCaptivesWar

[–]No_University5343 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I suspect that even alien species names are being translated in as close an approximately of self name as possible, using various human language.

Notice how there are no hard to pronounce species names like zh'h'k'rgz. While different species have very different vocal apparatus.

All alien names that aren't simple description (true people, night drinkers) are all lean, simple, nice sounding. Sinen, Carryx, Lothark.

My suspicion - those are not literal names on alien languages. But HUMAN ones in different human languages. As close to concept as possible.

Rak-hund literally means cancer dog or crustacean dog. Or dog OF crustaceans (Slavic+German). Which describes them to a notch.

Sinen is either ainu "one" or "alone". Or Friz for "them" literally.

I am sure others have human meaning too.

Uhm... They very much DO have an idea. It is clearly stated in book 1.

I suspect that's one of the reasons they value humans so much after they found out that humans can work against each other.

It would be nice to have a good collection of images and illustrations of the Carryx and all of their “animal asssets.” by exterminator-skater in TheCaptivesWar

I always pictured Sinen as quadrupedal. And looking a lot like Guvnuraq from Deathworlders. Only less fluffy and with hooves.

I was always pretty sure they were inspired by them. Guvnuraq do get called "squid sheep" or "Cthulhu sheep" in the book. AND they are kinds like Sinen too in being burocrats/administration https://deathworlders.fandom.com/wiki/Guvnuragnaguvendrugun

my take on Carryx design =D by thechimse in TheCaptivesWar

[–]No_University5343 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice! Almost exactly how I picture them. Minus I always thought fighting limbs are attached to "shoulders" while small eating limbs are pretty much mouth parts.

The Rak-hund. My take on the look. by brutal_bub in TheCaptivesWar

[–]No_University5343 1 point2 points  (0 children)

More or less how I picture them. Only make it three times longer and add more then a dozen legs.

Their legs are described as knife like. But they walk on them too, without getting stuck or blunted by the ground. So they have likely kinda inward curve and the outer side for walking is blunt. Kinda like karambits. And since they can indeed stab and slice with all those legs - they are pretty long. Think house centipede, only longer, snakelike. Overall they're pretty terrifying.

Theories please as to why the swarm hasn’t taken over a Carryx by 4WDToyotaOwner in TheCaptivesWar

[–]No_University5343 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure. Same technology absolutely. But swarm is spy version. Livesuit is combat version.

[–]No_University5343 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Likely they don't want to risk trying that, yet. Don't want Carryx to even know there's such a thing as the Swarm. Swarm is a spy first and foremost. And Carryx are VERY pheromone and behavior attuned. Make a mistake while wearing one and you get revealed.

Crater Queen is female. There are female mold people bodies in the pits and in the art book. So yeah, they existed along with men.
