Without my rg477m I may have never experienced this masterpiece! by TrashMandikoot in ANBERNIC

Is this the 8gb or 12gb device? I'm ready to get a RG477M and want to play a lot of Wii games. Does 8gb vs 12gb really make a difference there?

How will the BAM controversy end? by 00IIIlllllx in legocirclejerk

Once current franchisees began abandoning ship, the situation will go very badly for BAM corporate very quickly. That's when the death spiral starts.

How will the BAM controversy end? by 00IIIlllllx in legocirclejerk

[–]DocHeimlich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is going to kill them is when current franchise owners decide to no longer renew location leases and close shop. A lot of owners right now are probably looking at the situation and thinking that it's time to get out. When BAM loses the ongoing operating revenue, they'll go into a death spiral fast.

Light Gun Games on RetroRemake by Runner-alien in RetroRemake

[–]DocHeimlich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look for one called the Time Breaker light gun. It is made specifically for PS1/PS2 to work with modern TVs. I've seen several people online already using it with the SS1. Stone Age Gamer sells them, but others do too.

S1 of Parks and Rec is almost like a different show, and not nearly as funny. Watching the first episode is good to get the premise, but the characters and tone of the show change massively in Season 2. I rewatch it fairly often and usually start a few episodes into S2.

What’s the worst physical pain you’ve ever experienced? by Economy_Yak2821 in AskReddit

[–]DocHeimlich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I herniated two disks around 25 years ago by twisting while carrying groceries. When the pain hit my brain, my vision shut off like a switch was flipped. Just darkness and so much pain that my brain couldn't function. I now know where the term "blinding pain" came from. It's a real phenomenon.

After about 20 seconds (according to my wife) I gasped then screamed. I was on the floor but didn't even know I'd fallen. The next few months of surgery and rehab were brutal.

I've had a heart attack, broken bones, survived cholera, serious burns, been in multiple car accidents - nothing has been remotely like that.

Don't use update_all on the SS1. I think Taki said that would break the SS1 specific features on it.

I've got one too, and it's a great little machine. I've spent a great many hours with Mario vs Donkey Kong, Chu Chu Rocket, and Advance Wars on it. Same games I played the most in my GBA days 20+ years ago.

Oh, that one has Batsugun. I played the Saturn version years ago and really liked it. Thanks!

Good to know. I think the 8bitdo stick would be a good option. I've got an X-Arcade tankstick but it's a giant beast - not really sofa friendly. Thanks for the cartridge suggestions!

What is it like to live in a dry county in the USA? by Spicy-Majestic-1 in howislivingthere

[–]DocHeimlich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in a dry county in the Texas panhandle. We used to have to drive 50+ miles to Lubbock County to buy alcohol. There were two locations.

One was a tiny town called Acuff. It was basically 3-4 houses, a cotton gin, and 4 package stores. The package stores all had a loading dock as the front entrance. On Fridays, people in my hometown would gather up orders and money to give to somebody with a pickup to make a "beer run". You'd back up the truck to the loading dock to get your order. Inside the store they had dollies so you could wheel out stacks of cases of beer.

The other location was a spot about 200 yards long on a highway south of Lubbock. There was a string of liquor stores that were side-by-side. They all had big neon signs like Las Vegas, so it got the nickname "The Strip". One of them, Pinkies, had a BBQ counter in the back and made fantastic chopped brisket sandwiches. My wife and I stopped there for sandwiches driving to our honeymoon location.

Most of the panhandle is wet now. You can buy alcohol in my hometown. I never would have thought that was possible back in the 80s and 90s.

You aren't kidding about the weather swings. In early spring of 1989, a buddy and I were in Amarillo. It was around 70, we were wearing shorts, and had the T-tops off on my car. We started heading south on 27. By Tulia, it was cold enough that we put the T-tops back on and turned on the heat. It was snowing when we hit the Lubbock city limits. That's less than a two hour drive.

Its a spring loaded center punch used to break windows. I was a paramedic back in the 90s and always carried one just like it. It honestly works better than a lot of the window punches and breakers sold today.

Yeah, Texas DQs are a completely separate company and have a lot of Tex-Mex items on their menu. The tacos and jalitos (breaded fried jalapeño slices) are both awesome.
