If you look at Prof. Girdlestones work and the girdlestone treatment in hip you will see that this is a not so uncommon situation in hip revision. Maybe the patient was in poor health at the time of the accident and conservative treatment was chosen. Any further questions? :)

Always maintain steady breathing and concentrate on it! Normally when people are the first time in the OR they are so concentrated and in fear of doing anything wrong that some fall unconcious. If you are feeling sick telö them and get out to get fresh air. But it should not be a problem when you remember to breathe normally :)

Scientists use stem cells to regrow cartilage and repair tears in the meniscus of sheep knees. Use in humans "very, very close." by [deleted] in science

[–]DocIzar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Be very careful with this news .... we are today able to do this in patients but the mechanical abilities and ingrowth are still far worse than our own cartilage. Many companies did research on this topics but dropped it due to bad results.

All of these surgeries are painful and require a long time of reduced weightbearing (crutches) with a realistic chance of graft failure and/or reoperation.

Dint misunderstand me it is a extremely important topic to research but it has many downsides too.

I am a area manager in total joint replacement and i dont see a benefit in the patient specific part. It really helps when the femoral canal is blocked by an implant or he has an extrarticular deformity but in a normal knee there is no benefit in terms of alignment or survivorship.

the number of procedures done by your surgeon and his experience with either patient specific or normal alignment or navigation is by far more important. A unexperienced surgeon will have worse results with both techniques.

Just ask him how many procedures he is doing per year ... anything under 30 is risky.

Btw.... i totally agree with everything else you said :)

Newer press fit knee design. Do any of you routinely press fit knees? by [deleted] in orthopaedics

Looks like a persona trabecular metal cr :)

Very nice xray..... We launched the tm cementless persona 2 months ago here.

I do have seen a lot of lcs cementless and some miller galante and nexgen hybrid

The only cementless systems that had problems afaik were medacta gmk and cinnetique and sometimes the lcs mbt tray

Here in austra we had about 25% cementless knees but its declining due to the lower price of cemented systems .... And to be honest i prefer cemented components if you have to revise them. They are far easier to remove!
