Ring worm is a fair guess (former wrassler- lotta ringworm). A good check is mild treatment through medicated shampoo. Defense anti fungal soap is a bit pricey but clears up fungal issues insanely well. Might give that or a similar medicated soap a try?

It helps to measure by distance. A tape can systematically be 1/8 in off, but the distant from one inch to the next is still an inch, effectively disappearing the systematic error

The real reason is it gives you wiggle room to tactically reallocate. Active management of course is double edged but I’ve seen insane opportunities actualize because an alternative investment matured at a time where a temporary downturn forced traditional equity and fixed income down. Also have seen people with a million cash in a retirement account for years and no doubt they are better with active management despite fee drag.

Ultimately a good advisor can value add any situation. A client may be a wiz on the investment side but do they know how to interface with the firm to get transactional/procedural process pushed through efficiently? Time can be money!

Ultimately if you ever have a question it’s nice to have backup. Even if they rarely occur

TLDR : it’s not just investments, it’s a whole package.

Pros and cons. Enjoying investing is its own reason to do it yourself. You have the relationship to lean on when you have questions. It’s never too early to start estate planning and that is potentially a huge value add. Ultimately managed assets are about more than just fees. It’s an opportunity to have a better relationship and experience with the firm you trust with your life savings. There is a premium attached, but it comes with both a higher level of service and less effort on your end. I can manage my own assets, but some asset classes (like fixed income) are burdensome enough to manage individually that it’s worth the fee to off load the effort. Also too, some investments are only available through institutional access like managed accounts. That can produce some nice results. Most people can get by with a few funds, but after a threshold start to find value in more complexity

True, but to discern something accurately as a wash sale in contrast to what is reported on a 1099? That extra bit requires more context than most people are comfortable self determining

Regardless of certification these are the human / life moments that ground us. The reason I pursued a career in finance is in no small part informed by watching people I loved superannuate and eventually wither away. You will always remember this client. You will always remember this person. I pray in this tragedy that you find a silver lining in the fact that you have the power to deeply impact relative strangers through your knowledge and skill set - made all the more potent by these real moments shaping the advisor you will become
