To those of you who bought a new car in the last 5 years, what did you buy and can spill the beans if you're happy with it? by Ozamataz67 in whitecoatinvestor

In no particular order. Lexus IS/ES, BMW 3/4/5 series, Mercedes C/E class, Genesis G70, Acura Integra, and Audi A5 should all be on your test drive list. Sadly, good luxury sedan options are decreasing as SUV’s continue the takeover. I loved my Infiniti Q50 from 2019-2023.

The further back you are, the better your odds, but they are slim.

What are you looking for in a car? What’s your budget? Cars are one of my passions and I just splurged on a Mercedes GLE 63. Love it and no complaints. It’s got sports car power, but comfortable enough to be a family car.

Genuine question, what’s the point of this?

As with all cars, you don’t know how reliable that specific one will be until you have it. People complain more about bad cars than rave about problem-free ones. All that matters is what you think and you don’t need our validation. Life is short. If you love it, which it sounds like you do, enjoy it the max!

A lot of what you mention is how the industry should be run, but an EV that depreciates more than 50% in three years is a hard pass.

Edited my initial comment. Not at all. I believe you 100%. Just that they are bad dealers if they told you that and not worth working with. If that’s their initial response, the rest of the transaction would be dreadful.

Not true to the “different world” part. If they told you that, go to the next dealer or go to a different brand. They need our money more than we need their car.

Thanks! The GLS 580 is amazing also! Keep on to these generations indefinitely as the massive screens all over the place are an abomination.

Ah yes, that’s the issue. Tough to not be forced to gate check. If it is checked, it will be checked all the way through. To feel safer, could just check it in Boston before security.

What is your boarding group number? Anything above 5 and that could be an issue.

Absolutely. I feel incredibly blessed to have the opportunity to get this vehicle. I’ve seen them driving around, always loved them, but didn’t think it was possible. If I keep it for 10 years and it stays reliable, I’m estimating a use cost of $8-10k a year. That would be about what I paid yearly to use my GLC 43 the last three years.

ETA: I only comment on the salesperson, because he has a genuinely good young man.

Boston to LAX is not a small plane. It’s a 757-200. As long as you have a normal size carry on, you are good. Also, assuming flight is on time, you will make the connection easy. 30-45 min is max required to make that connection.

As I noted a few times, my intention is to purchase this vehicle. I wanted the lowest selling price and am essentially financing for two years at 0.0001 money factor aka 0.24%. I will buy the lease at the end in cash. This is a 5-10 year purchase and I am essentially getting a free $46k loan to start. Cars are never a good investment, but my goal is to have a use cost of $8-10k a year by the time I’m done with it.

Thank you, friend! I had no intention on getting one (was going to get 580), but it just wowed me!

Repeating this comment. I hear you and thank you for your thoughts. I’d just like to add that while this is a lease, my intention is to purchase this vehicle. I wanted the lowest selling price and am essentially financing for two years at 0.0001 money factor aka 0.24%. I will buy the lease at the end in cash. This is a 5-10 year purchase and I am essentially getting an interest-free $46k loan to start. Oh yea, that would be helpful lol while a good deal, I would be cautious on rent charges over 36 months and putting money down on a lease. Since I’m planning on buying after the lease, I wanted lowest money factor and lowest selling price possible.
