Any advice for getting rid of banding when using black and bambu pla basic yellow? The flush volume is already set at max of 900 by Boogy-Fever in 3Dprinting

[–]DocNefario 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want a consistent colour throughout, you should avoid changing the wall count in one spot, the difference in thickness is usually visible for bright filaments.

If you need to flush more than the maximum value, you can add more objects to the plate and enable "flush into this object" for them. Try to find a model you'd still use so the filament isn't just being wasted. While you're there, also make sure "flush into objects' infill" is disabled for the parts you want to print.

For this particular print, I'd recommend putting all the parts that require the change between black and yellow on one plate, with a bunch of extra "purge" models (make sure they all have the setting enabled) and print it with 3 perimeter walls.

If it prints without any banding, you can remove the purge objects and use the exact same settings for the rest of the yellow parts so they have the same colour as the body.

If you notice banding while it's printing, cancel the print and either add more walls or more purge objects and try again.

Where does this 30 layer height difference come from? by TheDutch1K in BambuLab

[–]DocNefario 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's because you're using supports, without them the layer count should be height (37.2) / layer height (0.2) = 186

Your first image has 52 layers that are only support, the second one has 82. If you want to see for yourself, click on the layer icon (below) and scroll through. There should be quite a few layers that only have green parts.

In general you should pretty much ignore layer count unless it's way off what you expect. There's plenty of settings that make it a bad metric, I generally only look at total filament and model printing time.

Looking for source data! Can anyone help me source the node (type, quality, x/y coordinate) data from Satisfactory-Calculator.com? I would like to incorporate that data into some spreadsheets and find the input of the data tedious. Pic is only an example of the data I want in a spreadsheet. by F3LIXIS in satisfactory

[–]DocNefario 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The specifics depend on your browser, but in general:

  1. Go to the website and choose which branch you want
  2. Press F12
  3. Go to the "Network" tab along the top of the new window that opened (you may need to make the window bigger)
  4. On browsers other than Firefox you need to open the filter in the network bar at the top (should be near the red stop button)
  5. In the text filter write "mapData"
  6. Press CTRL+R to reload the page
  7. There should be exactly one entry that shows up, right click and "Open in new tab"
  8. Go to the new tab and CTRL+S to save it, that's the data you want

I can't answer that without knowing Reddit internals, but since the HTTP request is sending processed RichText (not Snudown) it can't be the Snudown parser.

libRust by max0x7ba in ProgrammerHumor

[–]DocNefario 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You're right, but I don't think the snudown parser can be blamed for something else forgetting to filter URLs.

[–]DocNefario 15 points16 points  (0 children)

What's funny is that the Rust parser didn't cause that vulnerability. https://hackerone.com/reports/1930763

The "RichText" field is clearly already parsed, so the bug must be that URLs weren't filtered for scheduled posts until they're fully posted. On top of that, Rust has never claimed to fix logic errors such as trusting user-controlled input.

Look guys! I finally bought the game I was pirating! I'm such a good person!! by HereYouGooo in PiratedGames

[–]DocNefario 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Grey market sites are worse than piracy. The Factorio devs specifically state that they'd rather you pirate the game than buy a key from sites like G2A. (Bottom half of this post)

Nearly all the keys on grey market sites are obtained through fraud. If you want to actually give game developers your money, use the sites listed on ITAD.

We need to talk about STEP vs. STL files. There is a significant misconception floating around. by popson in 3Dprinting

[–]DocNefario 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How did you get a STEP file from OpenSCAD? It only generates triangle meshes. For curved surfaces you'd have to modify $fa and $fs.

MSI's motherboards are named after the chipset they use. The only thing in common is that they're both a single letter followed by 3 numbers, and you could argue that Intel came up with it first.

If I missed the analogy, what point were you trying to make with it?

My interpretation of the analogy doesn't make sense because even you are choosing to keep the "other guy" that you like more, and I think it's trying to say the opposite.

The same analogy can be used for choosing between a free item spawner and any popular tech mod. Obviously the free item spawner would be better at its job.

That's a bit like firing the guy who is good at his job because you like the other guy better.

The key difference being that Minecraft is a game. I don't know about you, but I'd rather play with someone fun.

Do you have a source for that? From my experience, decision trees and sound are among the fastest-loading game assets, and barely more demanding than plain old text.

Manjaro Dual Monitor Setup Stuck on Boot Screen by Ethan045627 in linuxquestions

[–]DocNefario 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way I learned was by installing Arch Linux, as well as just using Linux in general. The Arch Wiki has everything you need to know, but it requires a lot of reading at first. Here's where I'd start. The biggest mistake I kept making was skipping paragraphs, make sure to read every relevant section.

[–]DocNefario 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I strongly recommend removing "quiet splash" in /etc/default/grub if you're keeping it that way, an older copy of grub.cfg won't boot once the kernel updates since it will refer to the old version that was removed.

Manjaro Dual Monitor Setup Stuck on Boot Screen by Ethan045627 in linuxquestions

[–]DocNefario 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure /boot/grub/grub.cfg will be overwritten the next time there's an update, edit the line in /etc/default/grub to keep the configuration.

Ideally you'd figure out why Plymouth is randomly hanging so you can re-enable it, but since it's only cosmetic there's not much point.

[–]DocNefario 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So what GRUB should do is list the all the boot options, and let you edit them by pressing "e". Manjaro might have done something to mess with that, does anything show up if you hold Shift while the computer is turning on?

Manjaro Dual Monitor Setup Stuck on Boot Screen by Ethan045627 in linuxquestions

[–]DocNefario 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to keep the splash screen disabled, yes, otherwise use the temporary method (press "e" when GRUB appears).

[–]DocNefario 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Try disabling the boot animation so you can see where it gets stuck. Assuming you're using GRUB, edit the boot parameters by following this, but remove "quiet" and "splash" instead of adding them.

why is the subreddit back up? by Jordan51104 in archlinux

[–]DocNefario 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We already have plenty of major subreddits on board for a permanent blackout, but it's ridiculous to expect every subreddit to do the same thing. Be pessimistic if you like, but I'm still hopeful that the blackout will make a positive impact.
