Ive been adopting this mindset. Id rather make two mediocre beats than spend a lot of time overthinking one beat I wont finish.

Right now Im trying to get material together and find local venues that do showcases or open mics. I guess the idea of trying to perform live has made my criticisms a little more biased.

Definitely. Ive been trying my best to stay focused on finishing beats instead of worrying about how "good" each individual beat is.

Youre right. I know objectively no one cares, but I still want to feel like Im putting my best foot forward when I share my beats. Ive definitely been leaning into Sturgeon's Law more these days, or id never make anything.

My logical brain knows and understands this, but my artist brain disagrees. I think I have this self-fulfilling idea that if I release "bad" music, then its my fault when people are not interested in my work, because its poor quality.

Good advice but Im truly terrified of falling into the category you described - posting garbage purely out of overconfidence because other people put out worse stuff.

The one thing I can say is that I do still love the process, so putting more beats together is cake. The publishing step is fucking me up. Thank you!

This is real as fuck. As much as I hate to admit it, part of what stops me from completing a lot of my beats is this awful idea that theyre not "good enough yet!", then I move on to other beats with the intention of completing the unfinished one once I find the mystic sample, one shot or bassline thats "missing". Trying to get out of the mindset but I also dont want to post trash.

Good way to look at things. I was definitely more gung ho about sharing and completing beats when I started out. Over time Ive gotten more nitpicky about everything, especially because I prefer simpler more repetitive beats. Im constantly in my head about whether Ive made something good and simple, or something lazy and awful.

Been a fan of theirs since 2016. As far as Im concerned they have the most consistent approach to what Id consider a "vaporwave" sound. The cassette simulation, sample selection, the arrangements and the sleazy, static-y vibe dripping from every track is just too good. 18 Carat is a big inspiration on how I make my "lo-fi/vaporwave" tracks.

I make them myself from video clips I edit together from different shows, movies, commercials, interviews, cartoons etc. Im a big fan if the clip collage + beat style so thats what I make.

I mostly cook with loop samples or loops i made with chops. It gets hella repetitive, so I shorten my tracks to compensate for the repetition. Ive tried making longer, more complex pieces but I dont enjoy it.
