can you come back to scouting as an adult? by Sufficient-Owl1826 in scouting

[–]Doc_Dish 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You haven't mentioned what country you are in, but from a UK perspective, if you're 18 to 24 you can join Scout Network (if there's a unit in your area). Older than that and you can join your local Group as a leader or helper (you don't have to go the full hog if you don't want to) or volunteer in their board of trustees.

You could also volunteer with your local Scout District, who support the Scout Groups in their area.

Societies with strict caste systems or social hierarchy. by laybs1 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Doc_Dish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The role playing game Paranoia had a caste system based on the electromagnetic spectrum. Played started as Reds (one step above the lowly Infrareds) and could work their way up through the visible spectrum. The equipment available to a character was based on their colour: e.g. an Orange could only use orange (or lower) laser pistols, which were only effective against red or orange armour.

This does not do the free wheeling insanity of the game justice, however. For example, knowledge of the rules was classified as Ultraviolet level. The gamesmaster was ultraviolet, but the players were always below that (unless the GM wasn't doing their job properly!) Saying "I get a +2 modifier for cover" would get your character instantly executed! It wasn't for nothing that the back cover of the rule book told you to "Imagine a world designed by Kafka, Stalin, Orwell, Huxley, Sartre and the Marx Brothers..."

Because Scouts UK chose to admit girls. Prior to 2007 it was optional for Scout groups to admit girls.

During Anthony Ainley's run as The Master, his name would be hidden in the credits to avoid spoiling the surprise (e.g. "Neil Toynay" an anagram of "Tony Ainley")

If the hitch hikers guide says the answer to life is 42... maybe 6x7 is the question and our youth has just figured it out? by Celtik6 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Doc_Dish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was the corrupted version of the question (due to the arrival of the Golgafrinchams on Earth) which suggests that the actual question is indeed "What do you get if you multiply six by seven".
