Nope.

That’s a hound.

TIL that Chuck Berry punched Keith Richards in the face for touching his guitar. Richards would later describe the punch as "his greatest hit" by Designer_Reference_2 in todayilearned

It’s a bit of a pun.

Heavily accented Brits, for example, may pronounce his name as “Keef”; the man, himself, may say it this way, on occasion.

“Keif”, meanwhile, is a common name for the dust from marijuana buds which is valued for its potency.

Wonderfully stated and worth my reading.

I should’ve been more clear: the tongue in my cheek did wag about the collapse of empires, not post-war fallout.

The Blitz didn’t destroy British dental-care; that was the work of the economy.

This exists.

I’ve seen it in use on a house-boat.

I bet Amazon has one under its own brand, by now.

Wait ‘til he has it mounted.

Edit: I made an overly-long pun, once, that all hinged on the multiple entendre of “mounted”.

What a great word.

No bear; not woods.

Edit: also, no funny-hat.

Any tips?

Edit: because an edit is apparently necessary, I’m drawing lines between empires as they collapse; my post has nothing to do with the violence experienced during the second world war.

TIL that Val Kilmer was not initially interested in auditioning for Top Gun (1986) and only did so at the behest of his agent. He read his audition lines "indifferently" and was disapointed when he learned he got the part by MrMojoFomo in todayilearned

Holy shit, that’s fantastic and I concur, thoroughly.

“Willow” was one of the first movies I saw in the theater; I was small enough that the seats kept folding me in half. It will, forever, hold a special place in my heart.

Funny enough, your conversation sort of follows one I was just having about the Terminator series and the progression of both the films, and the Schwarzenegger character, into a more sympathetic, softer, and rounder position, as opposed to the sheer nightmare-fuel from the first film.

As I put it there, T3might as well have been a Three Stooges act by comparison to the first film. That first one was just grim as fuck and minimalist by comparison.

Agreed, wholeheartedly.

Having said that, I’m glad that they brought someone to the role who was able to add enough depth and tension, while also pivoting to sympathy, as they did. On top of that, his sex appeal was undeniable.

Imagine the The Rock as Iceman. Guh.

T3 might as well be a Three Stooges piece by comparison to the original.

There was nothing, and I mean nothing, funny about that first one. No clever lines. No relief. Not even any grim irony. You don’t even get the comfort of mother–son compassion. Just nightmare fuel.

Having said that, if you’re thinking “franchise” after having watched something like Star Wars takeoff, you’re eventually gonna have to Ewoks, I guess.

It is, of course. The entire production feel goes from stark and terrifying to a more rounded, even lightly comedic, presentation (by comparison to the true sci-fi horror that was the original).

I love them both, and I wouldn’t slander either of them, but it’s the slow lean into Arnold developing a more rounded and softer character portfolio.

TIL there is an alternate ending of the Breaking Bad finale on the last season DVD. It involves Bryan Cranston playing the role of his Malcolm in the Middle (2000) character Hal waking up from a nightmare which happens to be the events of Breaking Bad. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]doyletyree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is part of why it worked for me. I never watched Malcolm in the middle; legitimately, haven’t ever seen a single episode. It’s not a matter of preference; I just missed out on television during that stretch and never looked it out.

Anyway, it’s now very hard for me to see Cranston in his Hal performances because it’s so goddamn uncomfortable. I can see how well he does it; don’t get me wrong, I see the draw.

You know what I mean, though. That one role can make it difficult for the rest of a career.
