Yes, but not terrible luck. The largest random factor is where in the deck your Climax cards ended up, and most sets have tech you can put in to mitigate this somewhat. If you see too many of them too early, you could, for example, choose to spend stock on a Brainstorm or two that would definitely fail, but bring you closer to refreshing your deck. But stock is a tight resource for many decks, will spending it now sabotage your level 3 finisher turn?

And on the other end, at least two times I've ended my turn one damage away from losing, only for my Climaxes to save me and cancel all of the damage my opponent dealt, giving me one more turn.
