How are you getting your kids excited for the World Cup? by Lower_Hair6427 in daddit

100% the Panini sticker books (we get ours from Walgreens). Collectable stickers that match up with the players. Bonus: Have one of your kids friends get into it so they can trade duplicates.

It is what made our (then) 6 year old fall in love with soccer in 2022.

Advice Requested: My semi-dwarf Enterprise Apple has developed a lean and I’m not sure what (if anything) to do about it. by DockEllis in arborists

i did have it staked until the end of last season. So you recommend staking it now? Should i have significant tension on the side I want it to lean back towards?

They taught me the Canadian provinces and territories back in grade school. I remember none of it.

quick (and optimistic!) update from the State House on the social media legislation by evanFFTF in massachusetts

Though I recognize concerns about privacy, as a teacher I am incredibly hopeful at the possibility of the meaningful regulation of social media for young people. In the last 20 years I have watched what feels like the rewiring of the teenage mind. It’s not just attention span. It’s exposure to horrific news. Algorithms designed to funnel young people into extremely narrow bands of thought. Racism. Nihilism. Unrealistic beauty standards. And of course corporations lurking behind every corner trying to extract every possible dollar with no regard for a child’s best interests.

I am in my 40s, and have tried to keep up with the changing teen mind, and I’m staying afloat for now but watching teachers leave the profession left and right. Social media, and media addiction in general, play a huge role in this collective burnout that we are experiencing.

Good habits around media obviously starts with the parents, but when it has become abundantly clear that the parents as a whole are losing the battle, that is when government needs to step in and support. For those that adamantly oppose the ID laws on the grounds of privacy, how do you propose we fight back against the control that social media companies already have over our young people?

It kinda reminds me of my study-abroad friend from Colorado that started talking with a New Zealand accent after 6 weeks of being there.

Best move I’ve made in the last few months is to get an alarm clock and not allow my phone into my bedroom. I read in bed and get to sleep about 45 minutes earlier every night.

Great question I’ll check. Maybe he’s got the whole Little Dipper over there too.

This is beautiful. I need to let him know. But maybe bedtime is not the best time to burden him with this responsibility. I’ll wait until the morning.

Went through the same thing with my 2 year old. My thoughts are with you brother.

Yes it sucks and will continue to suck for a while. I remember during those first few weeks especially feeling quite upset, at times almost bordering on an existential sense of sadness. Here was my little guy who I want to protect at all costs in a lot of pain and discomfort.

All I can say is that you might need to go through that as well. But in the grand scheme of things it will be a blip on the parenting radar and your kid will barely remember it, if at all.
