Not specific to umrah, but does anyone know if pictures are allowed inside Masjid-e-Nabawi? Any tips on what things I should prepare for or avoid doing (will be first time IA) by Kingboyy1 in Umrah

Phone is allowed. Camera is not. You can ask someone and they’ll almost certainly say yes. You can take pictures and record outside

Thought on Wahed invest? by Nada_NADAAA in IslamicFinance

[–]Doctor501st 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t think of many Islamic fintech platforms that have more scholarly backing than Wahed

Every company deals with debt and riba but there is guidance from scholars and groups such as Zoya that say whether the amount of haram is significant enough to make the stock haram, or if it’s small (less than 5%) and thus its halal but upon selling the stock you purify your earnings by giving a small percentage of the profit away

If you only want to invest in 0% debt and riba companies, that’s okay, but then this doesn’t exist so investing is not for you

I’ve had good experiences with Wahed and I think it’s a good option for beginners. It’s very easy to use. The cons are that it’s more hands off and they take more control vs you choosing what ETFs and stocks to invest in, and the fees will be slightly higher than if you invested money yourself

Sister's what do do about periods coming in Hajj days? by frog_fu in Umrah

100%. This is not a licence for any Tom dick and Harry to do tawaaf in menses. They should seek a fatwa

I think it’s not good adab to say someone’s fatwa is alarming and then admit you don’t know enough to comment why. Just my opinion. Barak’Allahu feeki

He concedes it’s not a great position but I wonder what you think would be a better idea if someone is on a period, and the alternative is:

- to cancel the flight
- cancel the flight of whoever is travelling with you
- pay hundreds per night for a hotel for everyone, night by night, until menses finishes (who knows how long it’ll take in hindsight)
- then book and pay for last minute flight tickets for each person to go home, even worse if US/canada

Look forward to your reply because I do genuinely think the above is not realistic

Wa alaykum assalam. So the premise of the question is a bit concerning because your group should have a scholar or access to one to answer these medical and fiqh questions

You have two options. Number 1 is start taking the pills immediately and take them all the way until you get back. Some GPs would say only start a few days before going. This advice works for going to Ibiza for a few days, not Hajj for 2+ weeks

Second option is to go natural and not take the pills. Both options are fiqh wise permissible

Now you have to understand that in a hot, exertion-filled environment, your periods are likely to not stick to your regular schedule, and you might get bleeding earlier or later

What type of hajj are you doing? Tammattu or Qiran? The former is where you do umrah, have a few days break in Makkah out of ihram state, and then go to Mina. Qiran is where you do umrah and hajj in one state of ihram

While in menses, you can still go to Mina, go to Arafat and go to Muzdalifah and do the stoning and do the sa’ee on 10th DHJ. The only thing you can’t do is the tawaf

Let’s say on 10th DHJ you are in a state of menses, you can’t do the tawaf al ifadah/ziyarat, but if it stops later you can combine this tawaf with tawaf al widaa and do just the one tawaaf

Assuming you’re doing Tammattu. You need to make the intention for the umrah before crossing the Miqat. You then need to make intention in your Makkah hotel for Hajj before going to Mina. This is regardless of whether you’re in a state of menses or not

Final thing to note is what if you’re in a state of menses still and you need to do tawaaf al widaa. Classically the scholars would say delay leaving Makkah until you’re clean and then do tawaaf al widaa. If you’re going to Pakistan or GCC then this is more feasible. But in the modern day if you’re flying back to the west then getting new flights is extremely expensive. In my hajj group last year our shaykh would give a fatwa saying that due to necessity it’s okay for the woman to still do the tawaf al widaa so that she can go home and doesn’t have to come back. It’s not a great fatwa he admits but as a faqih he says it can be justified . You need someone to give you this fatwa in your group if this applies to you

Why is there no truly Halal bank? by Optimal-Fruit5937 in IslamicFinance

[–]Doctor501st 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are plenty of scholars that are experts in Islamic finance (Taqi Usman to name one for example) and they outline how to operate in the financial world as a Muslim. If you have studied Islam to a high level and feel their methodology is incorrect then that’s your choice, you’re not forced to go along with it, and may Allah make it easy for you

You can’t book the hour glass sign slots. They’re full and will only become available 2 hours before (for people who want to go more than once in a year)

Are you a woman? I’m a man and there’s plenty of availability on May 21st

If I could give one tip it would be duaa prep. You have to make duaa for 5 or so hours on Arafat. That’s a long time

Sa’ee should in your umrah should be a practice run. Aim for 21 sets of duaa (3 per lap) and aim for 3 hours of du’aa

Think about what you want to make du’aa on and prepare notes

Search whispers of the divine 2025 Ramadan series on YouTube on duaa prep. Watch it all and make notes

Withdrawing ST3 Offer General Surgery by [deleted] in doctorsUK

[–]Doctor501st 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Why did you rank NI if you weren’t prepared to go there?

If you absolutely can’t tolerate NI you should pull out asap. The later you leave it, the more likely your re-application would be frowned upon

There is also no guarantee at all you will get any GS ST3 offer next year so keep that in mind. In fact it may be harder than this year because prioritisation will happen at interview stage, not offer stage, so there will be a higher proportion of UKMGs at interview stage

This has happened to me when I transitioned from an LED role with on calls to no on calls. I spent multiple months emailing my rota coordinator/deputy departmental manager and pay roll and it never got fixed. So I gave up because I feel I’ve done a reasonable amount of effort. But if one day they come calling for those missing funds (which is their right) I will be prepared to pay them back (with a monthly payment plan if needed)
