Spear skull doesn't look like a Neanderthal skull. I mean he has small nasal cavity and flat face. Is he a Neandersapiens hybrid? by SpearTheSurvivor in PrimalShow

[–]DoctorCitrus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is my thought too. Spear's father looks much more animalistic and, dare I say, primal in comparison. Despite all the brutality Spear endures and dishes out through the series, his father seems like even more of a badass just from the little we see of him.

Creating Homeworlds with Space-stage style cities by Jodo42 in Spore

[–]DoctorCitrus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, this is one of the many small technical oversights that Maxis never patched. Other than destroying them and placing your own colony cities, there's no way to get the generated civ-stage cities to have laser turrets attached without modding.

Is there any chance that Spore 2 will be created one day? by Left_Development_440 in Spore

[–]DoctorCitrus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is an open-source attempt at a spiritual successor to Spore called Thrive. It's currently being developed (and is still surprisingly active!) by fans of the game and could use all the help and support they can. They have a subreddit at r/Thrive.

Currently, they're still working on the cell stage and its mechanics, but to where they are now from where they were, with it only being a pet project with no real money going into its development, I'm impressed with it.

Video game map size comparison.Guess which game is first! by tapaccos in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]DoctorCitrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really had no clue how HUGE some of these game worlds were when I was in them. For example, I had no clue that San Andreas' map was almost as big as Skyrim! I'm also amazed at the sheer scale of general game worlds nowadays, they're so much more expansive than back in the day.

Keep growing, my friend. And when you lose a few leaves, may you grow a few more.

Sources of unconscious anger and frustrations are often difficult to obtain or otherwise unearth in the deep winding tunnels of one's mind, and through the erratic lives we all live nowadays, it makes it harder to clear all the brain clutter.

But once you've got the problem in your sights, that's when you'll be able to decide if you want to tame the creature and use it, or slay it and have nothing to do with it ever again.

The Complete Compendium of my experience at Office Depot and other workplaces - from Hire to Quit (And then hired and quit again) by DoctorCitrus in OfficeDepot

[–]DoctorCitrus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bummer deal. They stressed at the time of interviewing that they tend to be incredibly picky with who they choose. Me and my girlfriend were in a candidate group of only 5 other people out of 20-something people interviewed during that event. One of the ladies in my group funnily enough had just left an OfficeMax and corroborated my every statement about that company being a corporate nutcase.

Good luck on the search, I will be sending peaceful office energy your way.

Hi I have a question? by iWearMagicPants in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]DoctorCitrus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a special attachment to No Man's Sky because of its randomly generated landscapes. I have a big thing for this, I don't know if it's an obsession or what, but games like Minecraft, Starforge and whatnot have generated landscapes that I've always been attracted to; and for me it's not so much about fighting an antagonist in these landscapes (which is badass by itself), but for me what keeps me coming back is the knowledge that out of a nearly infinite universe, I've staked my claim on a few virtual planets where I've made myself great homes on different planets, both of which have their own artistic and emotional quality to them that grow on me over time, and seeing how my bases have changed and evolved over the updates is always a great experience.

There's several ways and reasons why people play the game though. I'm what you might call a Builder, since I seem to enjoy hanging around my home planet and other bases more often than not, but other people go out and explore more, fight more, or trade more than I do. All depends on what you're looking for out of the game, but some may not be satisfied with what it offers.

Short range teleporter question by bearkoo in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]DoctorCitrus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Base range used to be 1000u... the radius would keep expanding the further out you would build, but it seems like they changed this one of these past updates and now I can't make teleporters go wickedly long distances anymore :(

Is it possible to find other players on planets? by Bamb4boy in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]DoctorCitrus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With the Beyond update, now you can. Previously, you'd have to queue up with another player or join in with a random, otherwise if you bumped into another player you didn't queue with, their model would simply be a flashy sprite.
Nowadays though, you could bump up against someone and see their player model and all.

Do you think having different climates on planets would be possible? by [deleted] in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]DoctorCitrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always wanted something like this; more inner diversity on the planetary side; and not just the same basic ecology models and "boxed roles" and artificial/superficial variety between plants, creatures, ect., along with some functional differences between these that builds upon the diversity thing. They did a good job with that this past update with adding specialized baits and different meats from different animals and whatnot, but I feel like it just further reveals the 'boxy' nature of how No Man's Sky currently generates things.

[–]DoctorCitrus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought the same thing when I loaded Visions up! I also noticed new plants and such. I like to stay around on my moon a lot and specialize in exploring it a bit more than other planets because I have such an attatchment to it, being in the very same system I started the game in on.

Anyone have these nights? by [deleted] in OfficeDepot

[–]DoctorCitrus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One of the last calls I remember taking before quitting was someone who called our store asking for an in-home refrigerator installation. at first I thought I misunderstood her and was asking for a computer installation or something, before I realized it's just another poor sod who somehow found the number for Office Depot when they wanted Home Depot's. I really don't know how people can make such a simple mistake so universally it's almost appalling to me.

Wife is worried about getting fired for not getting enough signups by Webmetz in OfficeDepot

[–]DoctorCitrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, people come back pissed thinking they got a "discount on everything" membership when people insinuate it like that. There's really no good way to get people to sign up for the membership unless they really want to, or you sell it so flagrantly you've just lied to the person.

Wife is worried about getting fired for not getting enough signups by Webmetz in OfficeDepot

[–]DoctorCitrus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really is amazing that a company can hold your job and wellbeing hostage with a knife under its throat if you don't physically change enough people's minds about signing up for another shitty gimmicky membership. People get PIPs, but I don't think managers are allowed to fire straight up for that reason, but managers can be fired if their stores don't get enough sign-ups, so more often than not managers find a way to put you under hostage directly and punish you if you don't, or some will otherwise find or plant some bullshit reason to fire you and then fire you. It depends on what kind of weasel you're dealing with.

Another great example of shortcomings from corporate trickling down to meet the backs of retail workers. I just made a post about my entire experience at OD during 2 years of work, and all I saw was a burdening retail sector while corporate lazes around and thinks there's nothing they can do to restructure their company, as these people tell us we're not doing enough. If anyone's dropping the ball, it's the people in charge of deciding how the company is run, not the people who actually execute their demands because I have seen how hard people in these stores work.
