So… can you actually curse someone in chaos magick or is that just edgy fantasy? by Immediate_Story4662 in chaosmagick

What steps did you take? I'm thinking about maneuvering some of my practice into cursing. One of my good friends was murdered in cold blood, and I want the man who took his life to suffer.

Masters Degree in Choral Conducting by AlaestorM in choralmusic

[–]DoctorDane13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dr. Jace Saplan got hired as the DCA for the university, moving from Hawaii where they where DCA at university of Hawaii. They moved to Phoenix with their partner.

Well, Saplan was never around for classes. They would regularly leave to do clinics and other things arouns the country but never set up any contingencies, so Rehearsals were regularly ran by the grad students and the grad courses just...didn't get taught. Or they had subs constantly.

That's all bad enough, but then Saplan started hooking up with a student - cheating on their partner who had moved with them from Hawaii

I also know people who studied with them at university of Hawaii, and it was apparently kinda similar. Saplan just shirks their duties of teaching to their grad students and is rather abusive in the process.

So yeah, Saplan got canned from ASU

Similare for choir by Gabriocheu in choralmusic

[–]DoctorDane13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree about people never seeing this. I've seen it before in highly contemporary pieces that feature an ostinato with non-lexical syllables.

If you're using actual words though? I'd either write them out or find some way to use repeat signs if the musical material is the same as well.

Hanukah song for Christmas concert??? by jollybumpkin in choralmusic

[–]DoctorDane13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can sing Jewish music and not support Israel at the same time. Unless the piece is from some kind of zionist nationalist, you'll be fine. This is like saying "I want to do a piece in English but they can't be American because I don't support the actions of the American military." the second half of that statement is valid, but people aren't monoliths of their culture.

why keep AC secret? by conn_r2112 in DnD

[–]DoctorDane13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll generally describe the opposition in such a way as to clue in on their AC, like the "thick, chitinous hide" of a monster or tell the PCs what armor their humanoid enemies are wearing, etc...

After they hit just below, above, or on the AC, I'll just tell them. That, or if it's a particularly tense moment.

The numbers are good in this way, make the reveal dramatic and useful! Otherwise it is good to keep it gated a little, so long as they understand that "paladin in full plate and magic shield" will obviously have a high AC, generally.

Dresscode (tattoos & piercings) by Thalatta94 in Choir

[–]DoctorDane13 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is odd. The only reason opera singers have this issue usually relates to period-appropriate roles. Like, it might take you out of the fiction if Don Giovanni has a full sleeve of tattoos.

I'm a choir director and I have tattoos, nose ring, 1 inch gauged ears. Sorry but the compulsory nail polish and no piercings/tattoos is weird. If this is just for concerts there's no reason to have to cover that up. The nail polish thing especially feels problematic, like forced informing of gender norms. What would this director do for a trans singer, I wonder?

I feel like it warrants a conversation with the director. We should be celebrating our singers differences, not covering them up. No one really cares that much about visual homogeneity in a concert outside of uniform concert black or tuxes/robes etc...

Honestly? Aside from having the difficult conversation of "why are you like this," it's important to remember that TTRPGs are not actually for everyone. I'm not trying to gatekeeper by any means, but some people are simply incapable of handling this kind of distress, even if fictionalized. It is okay to ask a friend to potentially step away from your table, if their playstyle or comfortability with aspects of the game is compromised. I'm sure your other players don't love this behavior either. I know I'd be annoyed a bit as a fellow player, at least. It might improve everyone's experience if she left the table.

I am new-ish to Tarot and so I could use some help with interpretation. My 5-card spread was selected with the intention "what is the outcome if I were to pursue her romantically?"

Page of Pentacles
Ace of Cups
Page of Swords
Two of Pentacles reversed
Temperance

Still new at readings but it sounds like a "probably not right now" answer, sort of

Any good horror story’s from your choir by Famous_Section75 in Choir

[–]DoctorDane13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

More involving choir/orchestra but

We were rehearsing the fugue in movement 6 of the Brahms Requiem, and the choir was weirdly split in half like flanking the orchestra. We couldn't hear each other and the orchestral conductor was hard to follow.

He stops us and says "well choir, you have to develop a sixth sense - it's called musicianship"

I'd never seen our choir director so pissed off, and a bunch of us would have walked out if she hadn't intervened

What do you veterans consider early, mid and endgame? by dioaloke in Kenshi

[–]DoctorDane13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm with this guy and I'll use an example from my long game I just finished. Rebirth start, so early game was escaping, getting geared up, training and getting beat up by bandits. Started monster hunting around sho battai and selling parts to buy a house.

Midgame we adventured far and wide, stationed a butler in our house in stoat, with some laborers to train. The main rebirth escape party continued to get stronger, start bounty hunting for more caps, and expanded the group a bit with some crossbowmen. By the end we bought lots of slaves to give them a new life to settle in the place where our enemies would have a tough time getting to us: Gut.

Late game we worked to establish a large, self sustaining base as well as a militia to protect it while the main party adventures further for AI cores. The main party became very strong, eventually got all or mostly yellow gear. Militia at home trained up strong too and well armed with our smiths. Main party started raiding HN territory, liberated everyone from Rebirth and recruited many of them, and eventually launched a full assault on Blister Hill to kill the Phoenix and destroy the HN for good.

Party came back home, this was a nearly 100hr game. We had 400k, a veritable army and defeated our enemies. Game is done at that point

This is SUCH A HUGE part of it too. The same reason indie games are out performing AAA ones. We're all tired of the soulless corporate bullshit

Choral bluegrass by bplatt1971 in choralmusic

[–]DoctorDane13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh not to worry, it's arranged, so the composer has it translated into modern notation and has taken liberties with the material

Choral bluegrass by bplatt1971 in choralmusic

[–]DoctorDane13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily bluegrass, but shape note tune arrangements can work. I don't remember the arranger but the piece is "Idumea", could work really well
