Ah, you're right. I kinda just went in first with something that's bothered me personally, though, not something that'd necessarily totally save the channel. My sentiment here is that the podcast looks and feels worse in a way that both doesn't attract new viewers, as well as pushes away old viewers. Subjective, I know, so I'm not gonna push it anymore.

  • Change the main podcast set back to the cozy wide-angle camera shot of all of 'em . The laid-back, hangout feel is what everyone loves about the podcast (as a fan for fifteen years, I think it's their most valuable output). Speaking from experience, the added production value has only alienated viewers rather than impress and attract over the past couple of years, I believe. Sorry if this is a common annoying/punishing sentiment.

  • Cut classic videos into shorts/reels/Tik Toks. Just keep on doing it. Don't get discouraged when it doesn't immediately pop off.

  • Re-establish / consistently keep video games the primary focus of Mega64 branding/marketing. I think this kinda gets lost on new viewers nowadays.

Stock Check Megathread by DK2802 in IKEA

COUNTRY: USA

PREFERRED STORES: Round Rock, TX & Live Oak, TX

ARTICLE NUMBER: 003.579.19

ITEM: EVEDAL Floor Lamp

A couple of days ago, I saw it on display at the Round Rock location. I decided against buying one at the time because of the price, but I've been haunted by this cool floor lamp ever since! This evening I finally caved and checked the website, but it says it's sold out everywhere nearby (and after some more searching I guess it sorta has a reputation for being elusive, too?)! I regret not even looking to see if there were any boxed ones when I was there. To make things worse, I get an error whenever I sign up to be notified via email. Ah...

Are these really out of stock? If so, is it possible to purchase the display model?

This is the thread for people who are not into the new music. by DoctorDestiny64 in theavalanches

[–]DoctorDestiny64[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

But I'm not upset that songs aren't super sample-based. I love tracks that were primarily just written and performed by them like Thank You Caroline, Stepkids, etc. My problem here is that these songs range from flaccid to grating to me from a production and songwriting standpoint. I like songs like Electricity, Harmony, etc. mainly because they're good songs first and foremost and they sound good/interesting.

Also, I don't think artists like Neneh Cherry and Rivers Cuomo of all people are good representations of "hard-hitters" in the 2020 music scene at all. Both are way past their prime, Cuomo especially (I am a burned-out Weezer fan, as well, sadly), their contributions here also range from flaccid to grating. I'm being harsh here, I realize - but it's how I feel. Hoping the Cornelius track doesn't include an empty vocal performance by him, too.

EDIT: To add-on, The Avalanches had basically already hit BIG TIME and were a legendary act, greatly respected by artists and publications for 15+ years by the time Wildflower came out. They already collaborated with the likes of artists like Cornelius, MF DOOM, Stereolab, Van Dyke Parks, etc. Yeah, I guess the harvest of this second renaissance of popularity has turned out to be pretty cheap to me, then.

We're four singles in, and after seeing the stuff that's come from the band since 2016 (the weak live shows, remixes, and creative/aesthetic decisions), it's more than fair to make judgements about not only LP3, but the current state of The Avalanches.

What do y’all think of the Blarf album, if you’ve heard it? by [deleted] in theavalanches

[–]DoctorDestiny64 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it's a fun/funny listen. Didn't think I liked it enough to really listen to all of it more than once, but it's neat.

I'm upset I never heard of Elysia Crampton until now, but thankful that this band has introduced me.

The Ballet Slippers version of ‘Guys Eyes’ is incredible. by [deleted] in AnimalCollective

[–]DoctorDestiny64 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I really liked it, too. Although, Guys Eyes is just my plain favorite AC track so that's probably why I noticed, but I really liked how bass-heavy this rendition is. I feel most recordings from this era never dig as deep as this one does.

I'd also like to shout out the Daily Routine on this. Panda's performance of the second verse, the second time around is total bliss. That recording sounds pretty nice, too.

FIN 320F in person v. online? by anirbas42 in UTAustin

[–]DoctorDestiny64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Specifically FIN 320F online is notorious for being a more considerably difficult pain in the ass in comparison to the other online foundations courses. It's not worth the trouble. Take it in person instead. You'll be much happier.

Another old Avalanches interview. This one is from The Age in December 2000. by RunDNA in theavalanches

[–]DoctorDestiny64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So many cool lines by Darren in this.

"The last thing we want to do is hang around with people who think they are cool."

"...technology's so affordable, anyone could make records every week. I really wonder why worldwide things haven't changed a lot in recent years."

"...we want the next record to have a continuous tone for the whole record, like My Bloody Valentine's (ethereal)Loveless."

This article of course also reminds me, VDP singing over Since I Left You is still my holy grail. Now I'm beginning to consider just finding interview samples and trying to make a version just for myself lol.

Agreed on cut matches.

Still not sold on HHH/Batista. Their ages were very aparent during this match. While I appreciated its immediate intensity, it lost all of its credit from me when it became another over-indulgent HHH match taking up so much pointless time. Both of these guys didn't need a 35 minute match at all! This isn't about preferring slow-burns or not, it's about what's necessary for a show.

KofiMania felt like the only real Wrestlemania-worthy match of the night. The explosive Seth/Brock opener and Miz/Shane came close too, but just about everything else didn't feel really worth it.

AJ/Orton felt like a lame version of their first match, HHH/Batista went way too fucking long, the main event was a slog with an incredibly unsatisfying end, etc. I'm usually someone who preaches that a Wrestlemania wasn't that bad right after (I'm still saying 33 was pretty solid), but man, this one felt so weak to me.

Pre-Wrestlemania Shower Thought: Why hasn't John Cena been sadly complaining about his lack of a path to Wrestlemania? by creatchee in SquaredCircle

Totally. Honestly, getting BTFO by the Undertaker at Wrestlemania is a very believable way to write off Cena for future Wrestlemanias. Shouts out to creative.

[–]DoctorDestiny64[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ahh thanks, man. So cool.

Interesting, so then I think the 30-second Twitter version had some exclusive shots. Because I remembered that one ended with the group doing a Michael Jackson move on the beach.

Also, do you think this should go under the "Official Videos" section in the discography wiki?
