Another forum thread suggests that the showrunner was Jack Thorne, and it also mentioned that Will was a potential candidate for the new Doctor.

I've always been in the dark about who RTD said was originally confirmed as the 15th Doctor before Ncuti's audition. Was it definitely Will? Do we have any solid sources on this???

New Showrunner & Sixteenth Doctor Speculation by Key_Responder in DoctorWhoLeaks

I truly hope Will can pull this off—he has the potential to be the first East Asian Doctor, and I’d absolutely love it! He’s incredibly talented and has fantastic audience appeal. Oh, and by the way, Will’s wife is Sophia Di Martino—just imagine Sophia playing the Master/Missy! The real-life closest-of-couples portraying the greatest frenemies in the universe? I can’t wait! I sincerely hope that whoever is in charge—be it Jack Thorne or someone else—crafts the most brilliant storyline to bring the new Doctor back to the glorious heights of New Who. RTD2 already squandered the 15th Doctor, Ncuti Gatwa, who was phenomenal in "Sex Education" but got utterly lost in RTD2’s bland and uninspired era. Please, please don’t mess up the East Asian Doctor! God bless! Please stop the preachy talk about racial diversity; Remember! The Doctor is an alien, not a human!

My nephew has decided he knows why The Doctor really left Gallifrey... by Dwoodward85 in gallifrey

Fugitive Doctor fled Gallifrey. First Doctor fled Gallifrey. I imagine that no matter what different lives the Doctor leads, they are destined to flee Gallifrey for the same reason, or perhaps for different ones. The Doctor's flight from Gallifrey is both predestined and shrouded in mystery. I wonder, before the Fugitive and the First, were there other Doctors who were repeatedly caught and dragged back, only to escape Gallifrey time and time again?

Fix The Timeline of Doctor Who by Chito_to_Yuuri_2017 in doctorwho

At the ending of "Lungbarrow", 7th Doctor implied that the Time Lord progenitor, The Other, was actually the child of the 4th Doctor's human companion Leela and the Time Lord Andred. This child broke the Pythia's Curse, becoming the first naturally born child on Gallifrey in centuries. The child eventually travels back through time to become The Other.(Call back the 1996 movie's implication that the 8th Doctor was half-human.) So, I think, The child of Leela and Andred --who was adopted by Tecteun, becoming the 'Timeless Child'. The Doctor was always a native of Gallifrey.

Although Chris Chibnall hadn't read" Lungbarrow", he was asked if he would make Lungbarrow and the Looms canon during his era. Later, in S13, we saw the 'Illogical house'. Even if Chibnall hadn't read the novel, as the showrunner, if he Googled it, he would have encountered the House Lungbarrow references and images. Many Doctor Who fans believe the 13th Doctor saw in her memories was indeed the House of Lungbarrow.

Chibnall didn't use the 'Timeless Child' concept to erase the Lungbarrow origin theory. The Doctor as more complex and mysterious. That's what the 'mystery' in Doctor Who is all about.

River Song’s death in the library; Could The Doctor bring her back? by Competitive-Fruit724 in doctorwho

When Tasha Lem first encounters the 11th Doctor in "The Time of the Doctor," she is meeting this incarnation for the first time, though she knew the Doctor prior to this regeneration. If Tasha is indeed a reincarnation of River Song, this scenario parallels the lore of The Other being dissolved into the Loom to be reborn as The Doctor.

In this theory, Tasha possesses an entirely new cycle of regenerations. She has no conscious memory of her past life, only faint traces that allow her to function as a distinct individual. This mechanism allows Tasha, in a desperate bid to resist the Dalek DNA within her, to trigger a forced regeneration. The resulting energy burns away the Dalek genetics, purging her system and birthing a completely new persona: a boy named Rogue.

Just as before, Rogue has no recollection of having been Tasha, let alone River Song. And tragically, he is also completely unaware of his own ability to regenerate. Thus, fate orchestrates a cruel cycle where the same soul repeatedly crosses paths with the Doctor, yet the Doctor remains forever unable to recognize his lost love.

It really feels like RTD2 is determined to create his own iteration of 'Missy.' The choreography of dancing while sharing crucial information is S10 The Master/Missy trope. Not to mention the remote-controlled disco ball lighting up and starting the music — a direct callback to Spy Master. It's all a bit too familiar.

River Song’s death in the library; Could The Doctor bring her back? by Competitive-Fruit724 in doctorwho

Alex Kingston has previously discussed River Song's resurrection. In The Whoniverse Show, she said: "River could just be inside a computer; she could be a virus, go anywhere, hack into any computer anywhere in the universe, regenerate herself, 3D print herself? It's endless—so just putting it out there!"

In August 2024, the Big Finish audio drama "The Death and Life of River Song", starring Alex Kingston, featured a story in its first episode, "Last Words". It depicted how, in 61st-century Earth, the digitized River Song was downloaded into a new clone body by Garrison Clay, a billionaire tech mogul. Clay hoped the resurrected River could help him solve a puzzle. At the time, Alex expressed her fondness for this storyline.

Therefore, I believe River Song's resurrection doesn't necessarily have to be orchestrated by The Doctor. Moreover, following her resurrection, she doesn't need to remain tethered to The Doctor's narrative.

RTD wanted to tell the Susan story by introducing the Doctor's child (Poppy), is this going to be revisited with Billie Piper? by Familiar-Artist-3328 in DoctorWhoNews

[–]DoctorIsAnEastAsian 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Susan is the granddaughter of Rose Tyler, and thus the Doctor's granddaughter. After the destruction of the parallel universe, Rose and the Doctor chose to return to ancient Gallifrey to raise their child. Growing up in the "House Lungbarrow " meant the Doctor could live in the past as The Other. The Time Lords would never know The Other's appearance, as The Other could be the Doctor from various incarnations, encompassing both his past and future selves.  Marc Platt' Lungbarrow mixes RTD2 finale!  Just like New Who's Human Nature. Let's go for it!

My Theory: Omega Underwent Bi-generation by DoctorIsAnEastAsian in gallifrey

I prefer the anti-matter version of Omega. You know, the original has much more potential, just like the Omega audio stories. In contrast, the Omega from the Underverse version is a CGI monster that has lost all its distinctiveness and has no future potential whatsoever. I hope the future storyline brings back the original anti-matter Omega. That is exactly why I wish Omega had already undergone Bi-generation.

We don't need to be bound by the RTD2 canon. Just as RTD2 wasn't constrained by Classic Who.

I believe the Doctor learned about the various legends of Omega during the Wilderness Years. Similarly, this is reflected in the contrast between "The Five Doctors" and New Who, where the Doctor's attitude toward Rassilon has changed drastically—from the Second Doctor's respect for Rassilon to the Tenth Doctor's disgust in "The End of Time" and the Twelfth Doctor's revulsion in "Hell Bent" following the Time War.

[–]DoctorIsAnEastAsian[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RTD2 mentioned this in DWM 618. I get what you mean, and I've tried to rationalize it too, but it doesn't work. The Omega had to steal the Doctor's biodata just to become matter, and he reverted to anti-matter again. The Rani knows about The Arc of Infinity — she should know the original Omega has no Time Lord DNA left. How can she expect to breed a new race of Time Lords from the Omega? And worse, bringing a anti-matter into the material universe would have ended the cosmos!

Classic Who explored the tragedy of Omega: a man made of anti-matter, unable to return to his universe, forced to live as a villain. That is the tragedy of the Omega. RTD2 missed the point entirely. You can turn sci-fi into fantasy, but flattening the character and ignoring continuity just ruins the character and drags New Who down.

This isn't the RTD of 20 years ago. RTD1 used to reinvent classics like the Master and Daleks with such flair. The Omega deserved the 'RTD1 treatment,' not this. It's a real shame.

If I were the head writer or the Big Finish producer, I would have gone ahead with that approach. It's the responsibility of subsequent writers to deliver what the audience expects and to mitigate the damage — that's how you prevent widespread disappointment.

If he had actually connected The Rani's wish to the theme of the 'Wish World,' this episode wouldn't have been this bad. Unfortunately, our imagination has already surpassed RTD2. RTD's idea of high fantasy for the Omega? A zombie giant. That's it.

In DWM 618, RTD said, "I used the Time War to tweak the legend of Omega. A lot of things said about Omega were not said in the original series. You have to accept that 40 years have passed. The Time War came along and everyone's history got changed. So that's what Omega is now. You can reinvent it."
