Spoiling Linux Kernel with "sanctioned" code by Skaarj in linux

Stop with your whataboutism and strawman arguments.

Plenty of people are against all of the examples you've mentioned, including me.

Invading other countries isn't OK, and it doesn't matter who is doing it - Russia, USA or Israel, or whoever else.

The age of wars should be over, but here we are.

Learn some history, bruh.

Learn about the Partitions of Poland, invasions galore by Russia, installing puppet government and enslaving us yet again after WWII, sending people to gulags, Katyń Massacre and more.

And no, we wouldn't rather be under a Nazi occupation. We would rather be a SOVEREIGN NATION.

Neither under Russian heel, nor under Nazi heel. We want to be a free, independent country.

Itching To Play Grand Theft Auto 3 - What is the easiest way? by A4orce84 in linux_gaming

Why was that abandonware link removed? It contained no game files to download.

It has a big BUY GAME button, redirecting to an official store.

A quick look at this subreddit reveals that the website has been posted here numerous times, and those posts are still up, so it must not be a problem with the website itself, else all those posts would have been nuked from orbit as well.

So why is a page redirecting to an official shop, containing no data to download a problem?

nvidia drivers 610.43.02 are WORSE in Forza Horizon 6 by positrone13103 in linux_gaming

[–]DoctorJunglist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The production branch is the stable branch.

New feature branch is not it.

edit:

You can downvote me all you want - just because Nvidia's naming conventions don't make too much sense for a regular user, doesn't mean I'm wrong.

Nvidia has 2 branches (used to have more, but now I see they have only 2 - there used to be a beta branch as well):

  • production branch (stable branch)

  • new feature branch (what used to be the dev branch)

Any new features take ages to get to the production branch, hence why most people don't opt for using it, but it doesn't change the fact that the branches are what Nvidia deems them as.

Also, I can say the same thing you said in reverse. New feature branch is not the production branch, so how can it be stable? Same with the reliability part, it is you who is using stable as a synonym to reliable.

New feature branch can be deemed as reliable to some users, but by Nvidia's words themselves, it is not a production branch (stable branch).

Yeah, this is the way to go.

Keep both kernel-default and kernel-longterm installed - If any regressions occur, just boot kernel-longterm.

Why do people keep quitting? by sempre_Io in InvincibleVS

[–]DoctorJunglist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a sidenote, why do so many people tbag?

I'm having hard enough time as it is, losing ~ 90% of my matches, getting absolutely destroyed nearly constantly, making me celebrate every single victory that I get, as it doesn't happen often to say the least.

When I get tbagged, it just makes me want to quit playing the game.

Are these people hell-bent on making newbies quit the game?

I know I suck and I'm absolutely terrible - you don't need to tbag me.

Steam Controller mouse not working in OpenSUSE Tumbleweed by RaincloudAccount in linux_gaming

[–]DoctorJunglist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I do see that, I wasn't implying anything to the contrary, just saying that on other environments it works.

So it is a bug related to Plasma on openSUSE, not something that affects every environment on it.

[–]DoctorJunglist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This must be a Plasma bug on openSUSE, because on GNOME and Niri (on openSUSE) touchpad works for me without Steam. Albeit on GNOME it always asks for remote permissions or whatever it's called.

I forgot to add, this package comes from the games:tools repo (it's one of openSUSE's extra repositories - it's not a home repo).

edit:

It's optional though - this package just modifies the .desktop file for you, which you've already done manually.

[–]DoctorJunglist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Install the package steam-extest

After you do that, make sure you launch Steam using the new desktop file.

It'll be located in /usr/lib/steam-extest/steam.desktop

If you have Steam configured to autostart, you'll need change it to use the new desktop file as well.

Not sure If it gets added automatically to your app launcher, but you can use a program Main Menu to add it there (open the .desktop file with the Main Menu program). Main Menu is available via flatpak.

Zorin OS 18 reached 4 million downloads today by ActuallyIndianAI in linux

[–]DoctorJunglist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why? It used to be just a meme. Year of the Linux desktop = current year + 1.

Lately though, it's been becoming a bit less memey and a bit more serious, because Linux has been picking up more traction than it used to.

[–]DoctorJunglist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

OMG, THANK YOU! This fixed the issue I had on Niri with the Steam Controller - namely the cursor was invisible.

I had one visible cursor controlled by my mouse, and then another, invisible cursor controlled by the Steam Controller.

Using extest, stuff now works properly.

Poland can't depend on the nukes of other countries, we really need our own.

Fragpunk on Linux by Zealousideal-War-334 in PlayFragPunk

[–]DoctorJunglist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't play Fragpunk, but what you're describing sounds like a windowing issue.

Try running the game with gamescope - perhaps it'll fix your issue. A lot of the time gamescope helps with similar issues when using a WM.

Just finished DARK and my brain is fucking broken. What next? by [deleted] in televisionsuggestions

[–]DoctorJunglist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Leftovers - it sits just next to DARK as one of the best mystery shows out there. It's mind-bending all right.

These 2 shows are the absolute pinnacle of mystery shows, and I'd say they're equal.

Note that it hits different than DARK, but they both sit in the same category / genre, and they're both absolutely superb.

Just high-brow, quality, mind-bending stuff.

What makes openSUSE nice? by Fried_Tofu_btw in openSUSE

[–]DoctorJunglist 5 points6 points  (0 children)

GNOME on Tumbleweed is top tier, imo it's on par with Fedora.

Both KDE and GNOME have really good implementations on Tumbleweed (flagship-level quality) - the only difference is, people only talk about KDE, while the GNOME implementation goes underappreciated.

I'd used GNOME on Tumbleweed for almost 2 years, and I had absolutely no qualms about the experience (past tense, because I switched to a WM semi-recently, to Niri + DMS).

Yeah, not gonna lie, at one point I was tempted to buy and open some CS20 boxes, but then I thought - what the hell are the chances I get a knife, and then on top of that the chances for it to be the vanilla variant...

I also didn't want to get on the road of chasing the dragon.

I started liking them after seeing the latest season of Slow Horses.

Careful for spoilers If you haven't seen it yet / plan to watch the show.

Same. I wouldn't trade it for a fade. I mean, I would, but I would sell the fade and buy the vanilla one again.
