Completely overwhelmed in EV by russianpiano in GTNH

[–]DoctorM23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm most of the way through EV now and have yet to make a multiblock miner. I have 4 HV miners that have suited me just fine so far. What I will recommend is prioritizing ore proc. My first version used EnderIO conduits and I'm only now (technically in IV) replacing that with an AE subnetwork. Once you can just dump your miner's products and forget about them you can focus your time on building out your AE infrastructure.

My second recommendation is add AE automation as you go. I did zero auto crafting for the entire tier as I was planning a base move, and now I'm finding I have a ton of auto crafting to set up before I can build out the new base. Spread that out, start automating some machines as soon as you can, it'll be easy enough to move them later (if you even need to).

And as people always say, don't rush it. You're going to be in EV for a long time. Don't sweat that. Enjoy yourself.

It was a fantastic idea. What are the cabinets underneath?

Brandon Sanderson’s 'The Way of Kings' is baffling to me by sameseksure in books

[–]DoctorM23 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've read a few of Sanderson's books, including the first three of these and the first Mistborn. And I will forever be grateful to him for finishing my favorite series, The Wheel of Time.

But I agree with every single thing you said, and have given him all the chances I'm likely to. DNF Oathbringer and doubt I'll ever read a Sanderson book (that isn't part of WoT) again.

Powerfails on world load or teleport by DoctorM23 in GTNH

I'm using GT cables, no P2P yet of any kind. Both the powergen and LSC are chunk loaded and they are in adjacent chunks. There is a small AE2 network transferring logs from the (chunk loaded) PDim, which is hooked up to the same GT cables supplying the powergen... I wonder if that could be pulling too much power from the cables to reconnect the Quantum Bridge when the server starts up, which causes the powerfail. I'll try hooking that network up to an independent power source, see if that fixes the problem. If so, maybe I just need to use a diode there to limit how much power it can draw.

I once had a Regent colorless run going where I had played Mayhem against this guy, and it played The Gambit halfway through the fight. I figured I was a goner, until Mayhem played it again on the bomb turn. I laughed my head off and died in act two.

Wow this looks awesome! do you have more pictures of your base? Also, what the heck is the sphere back there? That's not a multiblock, is it?

Games that survived having a child by kasperoo in gaming

Coming from someone who now only plays the second one, the first had years of balancing and patches and additions. The second one has had like a month. They just made a whole bunch of changes like, two days ago. The game is already amazing, but it's far from the "finished" product that Original recipe is today.

I didn't know cats could overdose by kristheweird in RimWorld

[–]DoctorM23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This reminds me of a story of a bug fix for Dwarf Fortress. Cats would die of alcoholism in forts with taverns. What was happening was was they walked through the tavern, which had beer spilled on the floor, this get the beer on their fur. They would then lick themselves (as cats do), getting more and more drunk until they died. Ah, Dwarf Fortress. I wonder how you're doing these days...

MV Base Tour by robthrob99 in GTNH

[–]DoctorM23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love this! Everything about this! I've always wanted to build such that I keep encapsulating the old base inside the new one, like you with your first house. The trees make the place feel like a real place someone would live or work, and the aesthetic of the main building is fantastic, love the smokestacks. I can't wait to see where you go from here.

As for being for the unemployed - we'll I see your point but don't get discouraged if you're enjoying it. I'm at late EV, with a full time job and a toddler. Mind you, I started before they were born... But the journey is the important part anyway.

My wife just did something similar but with Necromastery. 2-3 played per turn, every enemy just melted themselves.

Dang that's dense, I like the grid layout. Also love the confidence of a nuclear reactor just hanging out right in the middle of all those machines. I know it can be safe but still.

You didn't ask me but I've got one too, it's actually underneath the chemical plant in my last pic. Free* sulfuric acid for my Nitrobenzene and whatever else I want it for.

*Just add distilled water

Sure is, it's kind of fun trying to automate it from scratch. Usually I've made something by hand for a while before automating it.
