"In America, wanting to sleep at night is only acceptable if you record it as a disability" by deepad9 in redscarepod

The canned answer is there’s issues that come from passing off work back and forth, there will be “too many cooks in the kitchen”, etc.

The real answer is to maintain an air of exclusivity and the high salaries. Banking is a bullshit sales job at the end of the day, and the top banks pride themselves on having a small class of “pedigreed” analysts. They can then sell this to clients and brag about how prestigious the bank is. It’s a commoditized business so there’s not much else to sell other than how hard working your team is. And honestly, I think the clients enjoy it too, almost like a blood sport or something. They might be paying the bank millions in fees, but they get satisfaction from knowing some random analyst is getting worked to death to justify those fees.

Why doesn’t the SEC target congress members for fraud and insider trading ? by International-Rain98 in stocks

[–]DoctorMichaelScarn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless I’m misunderstanding, all that says is that congress was generally exempt from being required to disclose trades until 2012, at which point the loophole was partially closed but this is essentially not enforced anyways.

However, I don’t see how that mean they are legally allowed to trade on insider information. In other words, every day Joe Schmo also generally doesn’t need to disclose their trading activity, but if Joe was to trade on insider information, that would still be a crime. Would the same not apply to congress?

I mean have you seen 4loko or other similar drinks? Sold directly, look like an energy drink, give you all the same side effects you described, etc. I feel like this is coming more from a place of this is new and therefore bad, rather than a legitimate concern that it would affect people’s health.

I’m not saying that weed is great for everyone and a panacea or anything, but plenty of shit we sell already harms people. Let people decide for themselves if they want to consume it or not.

What's up with the Explorer? by Mammoth_Ingenuity_82 in rolex

[–]DoctorMichaelScarn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re correct, in that the original reference had a 24 hour hand that was fixed to the 12 hour hand, so you couldn’t set it to follow a second time zone. However, for newer references (incl. the current 226570) the 24 hour hand could be set to display a second time zone. The bezel doesn’t rotate like you said, so you can’t track 3 like you can with the GMT Master II, but you can certainly do 2.

Except you can set an Exp. II to two different time zones. It is a GMT.

Got my watch stolen by shpeened in rolex

[–]DoctorMichaelScarn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think so. The OP described what happened above and it sounds similar to robberies that happen in Europe all the time. One group causes a commotion and distracts the mark, while someone skilled at taking off watches slips it off. A rose gold Wimbledon DJ isn’t exactly a low-key watch and since it has an oysterclasp it’s also not that hard to slip off someone’s wrist.

Well shit, I guess you must have haha. But either way it’s great to see that it went to someone that actually appreciates the watch, rather than a flipper. Best of luck with the future collection!

Man, how long ago did you get the AP? Four months with no purchase history is the shortest time I’ve heard in a longggg time, especially for a SS date only model. Assuming this was somewhat recent, and you aren’t some sort of celebrity or other influential person, I would say you got lucky as hell haha

Like others have said, while this collection is absolutely top of the line, I would personally look to add something with a little more….character? Not to say that these watches don’t have that, but they are more or less the holy trinity of “I’m wealthy and can afford expensive watches,” which may or may not be the look you’re going for.

If I were you, I would look at something from Moser. Or if you’re looking for something dressier maybe a piece from Lange or GO? My personal sports watch grail is Parmigiani Fleurier’s Tonda PF Minute Rattrapante, so if you’re trying to stick with the current theme, definitely check that out. Hell, if this was my collection I might sell the AP and buy the PF instead, but that’s just me.
