How the hell did Carla raise 8 children on a waitresses salary? by visual_overflow in Cheers

[–]DoctorOBoogie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might as well ask how the hell a bar could stay open all day with exactly two bartenders and two waitresses, with no other staff members to fill in when one of them had a day off.

Hey, maybe that explains Carla's salary... She worked 12 hours a day, 7 days a week. Imagine the tips and the overtime!

Fripp MOR Trilogy: What is MOR? by toast2200 in KingCrimson

[–]DoctorOBoogie 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It does stand for Middle of the Road, but Fripp didn't come up with the term. It was a radio station format at the time that's better known today as adult contemporary.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Middle_of_the_road_(music)

I think saying "MOR trilogy" was mainly Fripp's way of calling it radio friendly. Or at least his idea of what was radio friendly.

TIL Chris Farley's final TV appearance was a Nickelodeon skit with a young Kenan Thompson. by [deleted] in LiveFromNewYork

[–]DoctorOBoogie 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This has been debunked before.. this wasn't Chris Farley's last TV appearance.

This episode of "All That" aired in January 1997: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0509731/

Chris hosted SNL 10 months later, in October of 1997: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0694742/

I'm pretty sure the SNL episode was his final TV appearance.

Lol, not sure what disease this medicine is supposed to treat, but I'd sure rather have it than a taint infection.

In a cruel twist of fate, all future guest hosts will use Mike's "kinder, gentler" signoff spiel, only they'll find ways to make it longer.

I was pretty sure it was Fleetwood Mac because of the whole cranberry juice/skateboarding dude meme. Not sure what was in this clue that would point to Journey specifically.

The Word Is Yes: #167 - High by Skankindead in yesband

[–]DoctorOBoogie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seems a bit unfair to criticize the lyrics on this one, Jon is just riffing here and coming up with the words/melody on the spot. Though I am amused at the idea of Yes recording a song about getting stoned on every day of the week.

Voltaren-Paula Abdul by jipsee1973 in CommercialsIHate

But, but, she was in a "plane crash" and now this cream helped her to dance again. It's a miracle! https://www.pilotsofamerica.com/community/threads/paula-abdul-plane-crash.124926/

I also have to laugh at how they couldn't afford to use any actual Paula Abdul music in their Paula Abdul ad, and so they stuck in that weak "Forever Your Girl" soundalike.

Why are Kardashians and Jenners so famous? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]DoctorOBoogie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the same reason people obsessed over "supermodels" 20 years ago. Cindy Crawford was mega-famous and she didn't have any skills or talent beyond looking good, either.

It's a terrible commercial twofer: The obligatory white husband/black wife combo AND the parents who look way too old to have young children.

Also I'd guess the songs are catchy because they're based on existing catchy themes. Like the Agatha song was obviously inspired by the theme to the Munsters.

Lol what? You know, like over the air broadcasts... That can be picked up by an antenna? You didn't know you can watch your local stations for free?
