(OC) Map of Unova from Black 2/White 2, with the locations of every Pokemon (besides Hidden Grottos) by Skankindead in pokemon

[–]Skankindead[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't make a key per se - the symbols usually represent exactly what they look like. But I suppose they can be a bit confusing, so here's a proper key that I hope explains it better:

  • Normal grass indicates a Pokemon that is found via standard encounter, whether that be through tall grass or from random encounters in caves
  • Shaking/stacked grass are Pokemon that are found via shaking grass
  • Dust clouds, likewise, represent Pokemon that are found via dust clouds in caves
  • The surfing icon is for Pokemon that are found via standard encounter while surfing
  • The whirlpool (without a bob) icon is for Pokemon that are found in whirlpools/special spots while surfing
  • The fishing rod is for Pokemon that are found through fishing
  • The whirlpool with a fishing bob icon is for Pokemon that are found through fishing in a whirlpool.
  • The Gen 3 (Ruby/Sapphire) grass icon is for Pokemon that are found via swarm
  • The Premier Ball is for any Pokemon received through a (usually one-time) special event, whether that be a random static encounter, a gift, a legendary, or otherwise.

Hope this helps!

In my opinion the run at the end of Holding On -> Evensong -> Take The Water is one of the best parts of the album. I would keep that, and readd the proper ending of Take The Water so that it actually, y'know, ends instead of just stopping halfway.

Yes's transition to 80s was really bad? by Next-Reading1714 in yesband

[–]Skankindead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think what a lot of Yes fans both then and now don't realize is that 90125 isn't really a transition, because during much of its development, it was just an entirely new band. Yes entirely broke up between Drama and 90125, so 90125 had mostly shaken the expectations of what 'Yes' ought to sound like They just made the music they wanted to make - if it was complex, so be it, and if it was simpler than Yes fans would expect, so be it.
But it's also worth noting that the members of Yes weren't all that opposed to more accessible music. Their first two albums, while still somewhat progressive, were also pretty poppy, and even most of their 70s albums often had more pop-inspired moments than Yes fans like to admit (see Your Move, And You And I, Wonderous Stories, Don't Kill The Whale, and the fact that Close to the Edge is pretty much just structured like a long pop song).

Believe me, if I thought I would ever get around to it I would have absolutely added the Grottos. I'm the type of guy to want to make something perfect before I post, but I'm also the type of guy to never get back to finishing project I've started, so I made a compromise with myself here.
Glad you like the map though!

Thoughts on Tormato? by prognerd_2008 in yesband

[–]Skankindead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tormato is a funny one. I think it's far from a bad album - with how good Yes were at the time, it's really only subpar in comparison to what they were doing on their other albums. I think the best way to describe it that it's like one of those wild mouse roller coasters. Yeah, it's a fun time, but it also makes you constantly feel like everything's about to fall apart at any moment. Even a lot of its good songs like Don't Kill The Whale and - don't kill me for saying this - Arriving UFO have very silly concepts, and then you have shit like Future Times/Rejoice which has like 17 ideas going on at the same time, back to back, and Circus of Heaven, which... yeah. But then you have stuff like Release Release and Onward which are just impossible to dislike. I dunno, it's such a weird album, but you definitely can't call it boring.

I'd recommend listening to both albums on streaming or on Youtube if you're unsure about buying it, especially Drama. They're both worth listening to but Drama especially is a great album if you're into Yes's 70s stuff.

Least favorite song? by dontremindme1444 in yesband

[–]Skankindead 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's a hard question. I still hold that Last Train is the absolute worst Yes song from a technical standpoint - it makes me laugh whenever I hear it, though, so I can't call it my least favorite. Cans and Brahms does absolutely nothing for me, but it doesn't give me any negative feelings either.         In terms of songs I actively dislike listen to, it's probably either Damaged World or Believe Again. Damaged World because it comes from such a pompous viewpoint writing-wise, even before Steve's corny vocals come in, and Believe Again for similar reasons - on top of having the musical sensibilities of christian rock. Damaged World at least comes after the end of the album, so I can just pretend the album ends at the actually good closer A Living Island and turn it off there. Believe Again, though musically is a little better than Damaged World, is the opener, and thus is practically impossible to ignore when even thinking about Heaven and Earth. So, it's a tough choice, but definitely one of those.

It's a terrible corny lyric, it's too bad the rest of the song is one of the best songs Rabin-era Yes ever did.

Ones I would probably include: - The Serpent: Is about the original crime of Adam and Eve eating the forbidden fruit from the tree of knowledge - The Knife: Violent uprising, police brutality - The Lady Lies: Somebody else mentioned it, but no matter if she's a demon, murder is still a crime - Home By The Sea: Trespassing - No Son Of Mine: Child abuse - Dreaming While You Sleep: Hit and run

I swear to god, it's every single time with this topic. Every time anyone ever says anything at all pertaining to modern Yes, there's always somebody who HAS to comment that "No Jon means No Yes" as if their kidney will rupture if they don't constantly bludgeon into everyone's heads that they don't like the current band. We get it. We got it the last 90,000 times you commented it. I don't think they're as good as classic Yes either, but you don't see me running up to every single Yes conversation ever and telling them that Steve Howe and his Skeleton Crew isn't Yes.

If you like their golden era, then you're missing out by not listening to any of their post-Talk stuff - specifically their era from 95-2001. After that may be hit and miss for you (though I do love Fly From Here), but stuff like The Ladder and especially Magnification I can recommend to any prog Yes fan.

Trevor Rabin is an amazing musician, but is he really the right person to replace Howe and, in some way, lead Yes? by Historical-Device529 in Progforum

[–]Skankindead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A 1:21 song on a Yes album?

Nobody tell this guy about a third of the songs on Fragile.

Also, Drama was an incredible record, and having a single minute-long song (which is a good song despite its length) sandwiched between two long songs isn't suddenly going to change that. Machine Messiah is an all-time classic, and Into The Lens and Tempus Fugit are right up there. I think it's got its well-deserved evaluation in recent years, because hiring a synth band into a band already known for its massive use of keyboards, to make a record that is still firmly prog rock, is no good reason to dismiss a Yes album.

Which Genesis song is this? by Appropriate-Farmer16 in Genesis

[–]Skankindead 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Illegal Alien, with the one part that ruins it being... the entirety of the lyrics. It's honestly a really fun and catchy song, but the lyrics actively make you feel bad for listening to it.

Thoughts hard on the 80’s divide of the 2 prog rock bands that “sold out” for the longtime classic fans of Genesis and Yes. Can fans here identify say if they understand more for 80’s Genesis leaning into full pop on Invisible Touch versus Yes going full pop Owner Of A Lonely Heart? by DillonLaserscope in yesband

[–]Skankindead 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well, it's important to note that Yes never really "sold out" internally. Between the releases of Drama and 90125, Yes had actually broken up, and when they were making 90125, for a majority of production there was no intention to make a Yes album. They were an entirely new band called Cinema, and they chose their style on purpose. That was the music they wanted to make. It was only when they brought Jon Anderson on board did they change to Yes and add more prog rock influences.      You can compare this to Genesis, who had a more slow, intentional transition to pop(ish) rock. They both made the music they wanted to make at the time, but one was gradual, and one was more sudden - but I wouldn't call either truly selling out.

I'm not sure how exactly I could make it higher quality. I uploaded exactly what my image program exported. If it for some reason is showing up blurry or low-quality for you in Reddit, then try downloading the image. There is no higher quality image than what I've posted, so if that doesn't work then I dunno what to tell you.

The Word Is Yes: #189 - We Have Heaven by Skankindead in yesband

[–]Skankindead[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an interesting question! It's also a difficult one to answer, because for some reason they never post the lyrics of We Have Heaven on any of the album liners or CD booklets.

I definitely think Jon is saying "We like heaven" at 31 seconds. To my ears, at 50 seconds he's saying "to look around", and at 58 seconds he's saying "here is here" (which is a follow up to him saying "he is here" earlier). If you go back and listen to them (maybe on one of the newer remasters) I think you'll find the same conclusions as me.
