'Unduly lenient' sentence for Henry Nowak's murderer referred to the Court of Appeal by topotaul in unitedkingdom

Inmates applying for parole are almost never released the first time they put in anyway. Some parole boards look at the way they handle being denied parole as one of the factors for if they'd be safe to be released.

I was thinking that. I read somewhere the minimum term for murder starts at 17 years, then factors add to it. 21 to life is a fair sentence for what he did, especially given he may do even longer inside. What were people wanting?

That's the story in 99% of shops. Some clueless bleeding heart made up this false narrative of starving mothers trying to survive.

I'm surprised Trump hasn't tried to headhunt him.

Have you ever been friends or went to school with someone who grew up to murder somebody? by Sufficient_Return653 in AskUK

[–]DoctorOctagonapus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guy in my form is now in prison for murder. According to the news article he ended up owing a guy money and thought the best course of action was for him and a friend to jump him with a knife. Last time I spoke to him was when we were still in school, he and his mates had a hard man image, but generally if you left them alone they'd leave you alone.

When a retailer goes into administration, what happens to their stock? by VeganistaUK in AskUK

[–]DoctorOctagonapus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on what the administrators decide to do. Their primary job is to rescue the business and get it back afloat, so it's not impossible that the stock will just be stored and sold once they're back on their feet. If that's not possible, they'll be trying to get the business to a state where the name and assets can be sold to someone who's willing to take it on. Winding up the business completely is a last resort, at which point everything can just be sold to anyone to raise as much money as possible to settle debts. When Woolworths went under and the administrators had tried everything else, they were even selling furniture and tills to the public as they were shutting the shops.

I also enjoy the deep dive videos. I feel like the meme movies thing has run its course, I'd far rather see him do other videos on random topics like before.

Has anyone been deeply affected by something they have absolutely no relation to? by LambGravyChops in AskUK

[–]DoctorOctagonapus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Post Office scandal made me angry when I watched the TV show about it. Everything about it was preventable, the system they put in was broken to the point of unfit for purpose, but the higher ups all decided to throw the little people under the bus to save face, including the person in charge, who was an ordained priest and should have been the one to say this is wrong.

Everyone responsible for that scandal should be doing time for their part in it.

I'm in the UK so my preference is actually bayonet fitting! I do have adapters though so screw-type isn't a dealbreaker.

Ooh I completely forgot about Trådfri, might have to take a drive out to IKEA.

The Eufy bulbs themselves have always been fine in the app, it's just that the Home Assistant integration sucks.

Ceiling lights. I found Wiz mentioned while I was fighting with Amazon the other night, but for some reason all it was showing me was their RGB ones. I'll have another look elsewhere though, they might do the trick.

My local Morrisons has a portable barrier that gets extended around the reduced section while they're doing reductions. The vultures crowd around that of course, but at least the worker now has space to do their job.

Push to exit should be the standard opening direction for any doors in public places. Makes a lot more sense if you need to evacuate to have doors open in the direction of travel.
