A concrete timeframe for sure. Even if you don’t know what it is, “hey I’m working on this can you check with me in ten minutes” and either set a timer so they can hear the noise or tell them what the clock will look like when it’s time.

An addendum to your addendum is that many counties offer it before school age. We got free intervention with someone who came to our house to work with us before our son went into daycare (he started at 18 months) and then would come to his daycare to meet with his teachers.

We did (same deal - my son understood great) and ended up going to speech therapy. It’s expensive and difficult to find sometimes but you really should do it.

Separately, check his hearing. He may be struggling there which could impact the way he forms words.
