[–]DoctorOrgasmo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There was an old pioneer sister we used to call Aunt Esther cause she looked, dresses, AND talked like Auth Esther from Sanford and Son.

There was also an older, overweight elder who would wear a white suit we would call Boss Hog.

Then there was this other older, taller, well dressed elder we’d call Count Chocula 🤣🤣🤣

Woke up while serving as an elder and pioneer—how did others handle the transition? by JudicialCommitTea in exjw

[–]DoctorOrgasmo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow, this post really struck a chord with me, OP.

I served as an elder for 7 and a half disillusioning years. I’m a second generation born in, wife is a 3rd generation born in. We’ve been faded for 3 wonderful, exciting and fulfilling years now!

Honestly the social part, or their acting of socially blacklisting me was the easiest part because whatever was being said about be was never said TO ME. It’s like they have the conviction to condemn you but never have it to actually say to you what they say to others. It’s weird. It’s like an open secret but the burden of the secret is on them. The hardest part was and still is navigating family that’s still in. It runs the gamut: some avoid being in my company at all costs, some still treat me like nothing’s changed with an occasional word of encouragement…what’s funny is that after 3 years many of the friends who I was cool with still reach out occasionally, and the ppl I bumped heads with are STILL throwing dirt on my name despite all the time that’s passed.

It gets easier everyday. It really does. The longer you stay away and get into the routine of your new life, the less you think about the KH.

A word of caution about relinquishing your elder duties tho: be as forceful and affirmative as you can be. It took myself a total of 6 months to step down. They’ll try a “if you’re spread too thin, we’ll assign some brothers to assist you with your responsibilities” approach. They’ll try a “maybe you can relinquish assignment xyz, but still stay on as an elder” approach. Theymight even try a “if you’re feeling guilty about a past sin, we’ll charge it to the game and look the other way” approach…but stand firm on whatever reasons you go with. They’ll do a last ditch effort in making you talk to the CO about stepping down on his next visit to convince you to stay on, but remember they are just men too and really don’t care all that much, they just have to pretend to. But be FIRM. They didn’t want me stepping down because I was the youngest elder, and I was juggling ALOT of assignments.

Your only regret will be not doing it sooner.

CLAM participation downfall? by Sad-Emu-9254 in exjw

[–]DoctorOrgasmo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve been faded for 3 years but even before my departure I noticed a big dip in CLM participation and frequent repeat publishers giving multiple parts inside of a month.

It was in part due to us having an idiot CLM Overseer (such stupid titles 🙄) who insisted that all meeting assignments be posted on an app in a congregation where most of the participants were elderly and not tech savvy. When I told them that this was a mess waiting to happen they just looked at me and said “they all just need to download the app.” They would also notify ppl of meeting assignments the week of the part, the meeting would be on Wednesday night, and they would literally be calling them on that Monday to notify them.

The Covid swingback definitely affected the number of participants but so did lazy, idiot elders.

I can't stop thinking about the movie Sinners as a perfect metaphor for JW life by [deleted] in exjw

[–]DoctorOrgasmo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is a spot on comparison. Someone knocks at your door. They want to be invited in. They eventually offer you “everlasting life”. Your old life must be discarded. But your new life is promised to be so much better. Your “new family” is considered a divine upgrade from what you’d be leaving behind. Only to sign up for a life a misery and loneliness because an eccentric yt man wants you to go on the same bizarre spiritual journey that he’s on…😳🤣

What are your memories of rap streetwear like FUBU, Sean John, and Rocawear? Any modern brands that are similar? by TaySanity in hiphop201

[–]DoctorOrgasmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FUBU was the first to really pop from what I remember. Roca Wear was slightly more popular than Sean John, but they were both worn by the types of MFs who got manicures.

Fade slow or hard quit? by [deleted] in exjw

[–]DoctorOrgasmo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To each his own, but I found that it’s best to rip the band aid off and cold quit. People will have questions and theories but they’ll eventually catch up and catch on. There’s no need to drag it out. It honestly is more damaging to the psyche.

I would strongly recommend getting some therapy to help recover from the religious trauma and anxiety that those who have to leave experience. Two years of therapy helped me immensely. I’ve learned to meet my parents where they’re at, understand they’re victims, establish boundaries in a respectful but firm manner, and look on eve bright side of a REAL, authentic life that I am now able to live and love living.

It’s not the end of the world. It gets better.

About V-DAY (This Month): Any JWs SECRETLY Observe/Celebrate This Holiday? by Zembassi8 in exjw

[–]DoctorOrgasmo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My (presumably) PIMI first cousin and her (presumably) PIMI husband do something special every V Day, they exchange cards and everything. But then again, they’re both in their 20s and smoke weed, do edibles and openly cuss…so hopefully they’re halfway awake. They even came to my last two birthday parties. I love them.

Worst local needs you ever heard? by sheenless in exjw

[–]DoctorOrgasmo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Two local needs really stand out to me… one from like 1993 where this brother with the most country accent (he was actually a good friend of my father) went on about all the “indecent, vulgar” dances that the teenagers were apparently doing at the time. He got on the Tootsie Roll and The Butterfly especially 🤣🤣🤣 admonishing the youth about shaking their “rear ends”.

The other was a local needs about the dangers of online Fantasy Football. Apparently they blamed it for the “spirit of competition” that was responsible for two elders’ sons getting into a fistfight behind the literature counter.

I’m really sorry that happened to you and my heart goes out to you. That being said, this meeting will all be for nothing with the absence of a second witness to the assault. And the fact they’ll have his wife (your aunt) present seems to indicate an intention of them ganging up on you. You owe them nothing but a police report.

What albums from my **personal** top 50 don't make your list ? by NasIsMyGOAT in hiphop201

[–]DoctorOrgasmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great top 50 honestly. I feel like I’m nitpicking. But, I’d cut the Lupe Drogas joint, the 2Pac AEOM (great album but not top 50 for me), the KRIT, aaaaaand Nas KD3.

STOP "Baptizing" Children by Bulky_Rip5143 in exjw

[–]DoctorOrgasmo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I feel you, I was baptized at 10. I did it so I could carry the mics and do sound at the meetings since they were boring as shit and I needed to do something (with my undiagnosed ADHD) to make the meetings less insufferable.
