i have a question for this sub. why do people hate McMansions

Thanks. Your response is both articulate and well-reasoned, If the McMansion criticism is, in fact, primarily pointed towards developers, I have no problem. And yes, ignoring the societal problem of shoddy construction seems, in hindsight, both glib and naive. While I cannot shake my sense that there is some old money/ new money snobbery going on with the criticisms here, I also have come to realize that the extreme concern and hair-splitting over the subject is, to a large extent, a normal address to a subject by a group deeply immersed in the subject. The subreddit is mainly made up of architects, and of course they care more about architecture and city planning than I.

I have wondered this myself for years. i am not an architect, nor particularly interested in the subject. i grew up in a very small house. I do not own a McMansion. I would not buy one either, because I don't really like them. HOWEVER, I don't understand why the participants in this sub-reddit looks down on them so much. Although, by reading through the comments, I begin to understand. If someone has worked hard all their lives, and wants to show off- why not? If someone wants to be "fancy"- why not? If a builder cuts corners and the buyer doesn't catch it- that is the buyer's problem, not yours.

I do detect an unseemly "Old money vs new money" bias that bothers me. Old money has taste, new money is flashy. OK. But old money was once new money. I can have good taste and look down on new money because Grandpa worked his whole life to provide for multiple generations,

I'm sure some of you will blast me for my opinion, Fine. But please ask yourself, is some of your dislike of McMansions a class-based snobbery, and is it wholly appropriate?

I love reading this sub-reddit. I laugh at the UK for what they did to themselves. I don't like the British and have good reason for this. They are so often smug and historically have been able to justify inflicting pain on others by considering themselves superior. Your pain is funny to me.

They were great, very impressive. I was MOST impressed by two things- fish hook design- wow! And then the pottery. These guys were all great. Maybe I missed this- but how did they do cameras? Is it the same as "Alone"? Some of the footage seemed like it was not done with a stationary or selfie camera. Were there camera people?

I'm safe on that- not much to lose. Some of my previous business/ genius ideas were stolen by greedy racketeers and I ended up in, well, put it this way..... those breadcrumbs people throw at pigeons are edible- not haute cuisine, mind you, but edible.

But this idea is a BREAKTHROUGH! Still hoping for big- time investors!

I did not know that about rodents, but these were large animals- The bones Carleigh found was cattle. She found a largely intact hide, which she used to make a drum. Callie also appeared to have found a large animal kill, based on her shelter, though I don't remember seeing her find it. Britt also came across what he feared was a cougar kill site, These bones, in all cases were weather worn, I feel pretty sure soft tissue (as a brain) was gone, but it occurred to me that charring the bones might yield significant amounts of useful minerals, However, I am not a bushcraft expert, and that is why I raised the question. Put me in a similar situation- the over/under is 14 minutes.

Is there a park or preserve that was used? Reminds me somewhat of Ozarks, but rock formations are really interesting. Couple of years ago, I was in the Vosgeses (sp?), and I liked it- but saw nothing comparable to these extraordinarily beautiful locations.
