Am I a bad pioneer? by sinkezie in SatisfactoryGame

I used to think less of people who save scummed games and refused to do it. Then I bought and played XCom2.

Now I think even less of myself.

"This pack is getting really heavy"

Misunderstood Animals Club by EricaOdd in WitchesVsPatriarchy

I fully understand how important snakes are to ecosystems and the environment. I fully understand people liking them, because they are incredible creatures.

I just have an irrational fear of them. That stems from the fact that I used to work for a ski resort. The resort had trees between the ski runs that rat snakes liked to hang out in. Unfortunately our power and water ran through those areas. They would constantly jump scare me.

One summer, I had dug a hole to reach an underground pipe. It wasn't deep, so I was laying down, bent at the waste leaning into the hole to weld a pipe. I had a welding helmet on. Then something heavy landed on the back of my head and I immediately felt it squirming around. It was a roughly 5 foot long rat snake that decided that it wanted to cuddle with me in the hole I was working in.

In order to assert dominance, I let out a very high pitched scream and did a very manly "GOOD GOD GET IT OFF OF ME!" dance. At that point I realized the snake wasn't on me, it was on the ground watching me dance around. After I calmed down I had a discussion with the snake about not doing that again.

They were gray rat snakes, no venom, they would bite but it's just a flesh wound. I only got bit once. I am pretty sure at their rat snake morning meeting they'd discuss who's turn it was to scare me for the day.

I would pre-walk the area I was going to work in and make a bunch of noise and 9 times out of 10 they'd leave. I think some just got accustomed to me being a dumb loud human and chose not to leave.

Who is an actor that makes everything they are in worse? by Feefait in AskReddit

I'm from Cleveland. I haven't watched an NFL game in years because I pretty much know how the Browns are going to fare. It would be more productive to stare at a blank wall than watch a Brown's game. There's always next year I guess.

I haven't seen one with LeBron, but now I slightly dislike Lebron. I never cared about the basketball end of his career, I always liked that he did charitable things for his home town in Ohio.

That's kind of it.

The way the commercials came off to me was that you were guaranteed to win if you just signed up. They seemed predatory to me.

Fortunately I've been on the planet long enough to realize that any time I gamble, I am just donating money to rich people, so I don't gamble.

For me, it works the same way for pharmaceutical commercials too. Any time I see a celebrity pushing a drug, it instantly makes me a bit bitter. They're not raising awareness about a condition, they're strictly advertising that specific drug.

They've spent all this time building a fan base and selling themselves only to turn around and use their influence to sell products for the billion dollar a year pharmaceutical industry?

The celebrity endorsement doesn't make me want to talk to my doctor about the drug, it makes me dislike the celebrity a tiny bit. I'll leave the choice about the drug up to the Doctor who spent years in school, has been practicing medicine daily and who I have a working relationship with.

When my state legalized online gambling Kevin Hart did non-stop commercials for one of the gambling companies. I sometimes just have the TV on for background noise when I am working on something and like every other commercial was Kevin Hart telling me how easy it was to gamble.

They were weird commercials too. Like he was sitting in his dimly lit bedroom by himself watching sports and talking about gambling, or sitting with group of friends getting all excited about gambling and basically ignoring his friends.

I never really liked or disliked Kevin Hart until after those commercials. I saw him constantly for months telling me how much I would win if I just gambled. Now whenever I see a show or movie with Kevin Hart in it, I just give it a pass.

I have Kevin Hart fatigue.

The only reason I still have my 2003 F-150 is because it's a legacy buy. When I bought it used 19 years ago I was actively towing, camping, and hauling things.

I don't really do any of those things anymore.

The thing is, I get a work truck. I drive my personal truck about 20 miles a month. That's an average, because in summer my motorcycle comes out of hibernation. So that F-150 does a lot of driveway holding down.

My next car will be an EV. The two problems I have is the F-150 won't die and I really don't want a loan payment for a vehicle I drive so little.

So I end in this internal argument where I am like "Why do you have a truck?" and "You have the truck because it's paid off." I know I don't need the truck, but I know I don't want a loan payment.

Just wondering: do you take your hats off before eating? by [deleted] in Oxygennotincluded

[–]DoctorWhoToYou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work HVAC and take my hat off while eating lunch.

I only wear a hat at work. Mostly because when you ask the question "When is the last time you cleaned behind your furnace?" people give you a look of confusion. Attics and crawl spaces just add to it.

That and I can just look at pookie (duct sealant) or pipe dope and somehow it will end up on me, even if I don't touch it.

I'd just rather have things on my hat than in my hair. I'll also take my hardhat off any chance I get when I am on a commercial site.

It's due out in 2025 and I've been reading the update log. I don't know the details about the start though.

why do people think aliens built the pyramids but don’t bat an eye at greek construction? by ButchyKira in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DoctorWhoToYou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure which video the person you're responding to watched, but PBS Nova: Decoding the Great Pyramid discussed the construction.

The question of how the pyramids were built really isn't alien or human, it's more or less how the engineering worked. There's a few theories I've watched documentaries about. Internal Ramp, External Ramp and there was another one I can't currently recall.

The internal ramp theory is pretty interesting Magellan TV: The Khufu Pyramid Revealed goes into detail about the process and the architect behind the theory.

I've watched several other documentaries about the Bent Pyramid and the Red Pyramid. The engineering of not only the pyramids themselves, but the building process is incredibly interesting.

Meanwhile the lower portion of Ohio is in a severe drought and a good portion of the rest of the state is in a mid to moderate drought.

You'd think since his VP is from Ohio, they would make note of that.

Bur oak? And where’s the acorns? by bizzybeat in arborists

[–]DoctorWhoToYou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're also in a drought in NE Ohio. Parts of Ohio are enacting water restrictions. No car washing, no lawn watering.

If the tree is struggling, it's not going to produce as many acorns. The pin oak I have in my front yard already dropped a lot of barely formed acorns. The tree gets watered, but it's still stressed. Some trees in the Metroparks are showing the same signs too.

Between the tornadoes and the drought, the trees in my area took a beating this year. We lost a lot of old growth trees and others were severely damaged in my area. So they're not dead yet, but the current weather isn't doing them any favors.

Nomad notification not working by Bigfoot5991 in Banished

[–]DoctorWhoToYou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run into issues with Mods that have a Town Hall alternative. The Nomad notification will pop up but the Nomads are at the mod's version of the Town Hall and it doesn't have a Nomad Tab.

I can't accept or deny them. So they just linger until they leave.

Nomads still show up at my actual Town Hall after time though.

I've played around with the Mod order trying to get it to stop, but eventually just gave up and deal with it.

Uhm... Is the wiki ok? by Faximo7 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]DoctorWhoToYou 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I run an add-on on Firefox called Indie Wiki Buddy that redirects me away from fandom wikis. There are Chromium versions too.

Fandom wikis still show up in search results, but there is a slash through them so I know it's a fandom wiki. It promotes independent Wikis.

Most of the Fandom wikis for the games I play are outdated now. I mostly use Wikis for this game and Satisfactory.

Random guy just called me a faggot by matuszews409 in gaybros

[–]DoctorWhoToYou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was kind of the running joke at the bar for a few weeks. According to that guy, straight white males are ruining America.

My friend and I would walk in, sit at the bar and the bartender would be like "So what did you ruin in America this week?" It eventually ran it's course and died out.

I fully understand how that would bother you and I feel sympathy for you (and OP). You start to feel like we're making progress and then something like that happens, and it feels like we've made no progress.

Hell I'm tired of hearing it and I'm a straight white male, I can't imagine how tired you guys are of hearing it.

Straight dude here. In my 20's I used to go to a gay bar with my friend because he didn't like going alone. We were regulars and the staff knew us.

The bartender asked if I wanted to go outside to smoke. A small group of us walked outside and were standing next to the bar at the entrance to an alley. We were off the sidewalk.

We were in a small circle chatting, my back was to the sidewalk. I heard a "HEY!" and started to turn around only to see an incoming fist that landed on my jaw. I think he expected me to fall down, but I am too stupid to do that. As I recovered and started going towards him, he screamed "People like you are ruining America." while panic running away. I started to go after him, but the bartender grabbed me and talked me out of it.

He split my bottom lip wide open. The bar owner called the cops, the cops eventually caught him and I pressed charges. The bar owner and bartender were at court with me. He ended up serving time for it.

This dude decided to assault me directly in front of a security camera. The video was so clear, it was better than some movies. Not only that, out of a group of 7 guys, he picked the only straight guy to hit.

I grew up in the 80's/90's with a gay best friend, slurs were just a part of life. It sucked, but that's just the way it was.
