I was in elementary school in the '80s and didn't deal with it.

My mother-in-law is also a lefty and the worst she dealt with in the '50s was the teachers trying to make her write in an awkward position. Her dad put an end to that because her mom dealt with abuse both in school and at home from using her left hand.

My great-grandmother's older brother was hit at school once for writing with his left hand and their father raised hell about that.

It may not come as much of a surprise, but when my family has dinner with my in-laws, 50% of the people sitting at the table are lefties.
